Alcohol is alcohol is alcohol.

Seriously, the people who say, "Man I get soooo crazy on tequilla", or, "I start drinking bourbon and there is going to be a fight" make me want to smack them in the face with a big thick chemistry book.

Actually, the kind of liquor used to get drunk can dictate how fast, and how drunk a person gets.

People who do shots tend to get drunk faster, and get far more drunk than someone who just nurses beers all night. So in that case, yes, they have a different experience when they drink that over their normal drinks. They then relate that to the type of liquor they used to get that way.

Speed of ingestion and concentration of alcohol aside.
I know more than a few who've funneled a beer or two in their life. :D

I understand the psychology and physiology of why people associate different libations with different "buzzes", but I also understand why they're incorrect in thinking so.

Yeah, I know. But the average person nurses beer MUCH slower than they do shots.

Anyhow, it looks like we agree. Different speeds of ingestion can affect people differently. Different liquors (like those traditionally done in shots) can influence the speed of ingestion.

People ignorantly associate the specific liquor, rather than their drinking patterns with their behavior.

for me, too much tequilla, whiskey, or wine means a trip to nausea and headache city

Rum is the best, specifically Rum and Coca Cola. Don't think I've ever got sick on Rum n' Coke.

Do any of you guys find that different alcohols give off different "qualities" of "buzziness"?
Definately. I prefer the "clearer and cleaner" high vodka gives. Absolute is my favorite.

If it's your favorite, you should learn how to spell it's name. It's Absolut.

Depends on what effect I'm trying for. Wine is usually very nice. Cognac and scotch are the ultimate mellowers and contemplators. 151 for hard drunks.

Absolut is the Bose of vodkas. All marketing hype for what is basically a small step up from a well brand vodka.

If you want a good commonly available vodka, try Grey Goose or Belvedere.

All liquors contain the same type of alcohol. The varying difference is the concentration of it, and the amount and type of impurities...
(Grapes, Corn, Hops, Barley, Potato, Wheat, Rye, etc)

I can't really think of a time that I tore into a bottle of wine thinking "Oh many I'm gonna get crunked up tonight!"

On the flip side, I can't think of too many times that I started doing shots of tequilla with the intentions of writing a thesis paper on the evolution of man.

Your brain is the biggest player in the game. Not the type of booze.

I'm giggling at memories of you and your crew here in the ATL and the ridiculous bar tab we rang up. :D

Which leads me to another point....

Double shots of Jim Beam chased down with a missle silo of PBR DO NOT do a body well.

Yeah, Svedka (from Sweden) is better than Absolut or Smirnoff and it's about 10$ cheaper for 750mL. I usually just run some 9$/L stuff through a Brita filter about 8 times and it is good.

Grey Goose is right there with Absolut in my opinion. All bottle, no substance.
Absolut Marketing.

I don't know how you can compare the two. They aren't even in the same class. Grey Goose is worlds better than Absolut.

But everone seems to think that it's god's gift to spirituous liquors, which it hardly is.
They've gotten famous because they are famous.
