Well I agree with some of your points, but not all. I don't use the computer 24/7, so obviously I am gonna see the desktop more often then not. Having the weather on my desktop is a big plus, since I can glance at it in the morning when I get up rather then have to check the web or watch the news or something. While the docks don't really do anythign I can't already do withthe quick launch bar, I do feel they look and work a little better. They can be setup to autohide, so they will consume no needed space. If I could get big quick launch icons without the taskbar looking like crap, then that would be great. But bigger icons means a bigger taskbar, which also takes up space. A calender is nice since I can see the date without hovering over the time in the taskbar. Some sort of notes thing would be great for me to remember some stuff I might forget.
I agree that a lot of the stuff is pointless, but I can see uses for many of the stuff. An itunes remote on the desktop woudl be great for when I want to listen to some tunes without having to open itunes. I do agree that most of the CPU monitors and stuff liek that in programs like serious samurize probablly are useless. Especially on the desktop anyway. There are times when you may want to see how taxed your CPU or memory are, but its unlikely you would be at the desktop during these times. SO again I can see a point for them, just not on the desktop.
I suppose many of the things I want could be done by increasing the size of the taskbar, but again unless I autohide it, it takes up more space, plus I think it looks ugly with the start button at the top and then just blue taskbar below it.
I guess I should have mentioned that in some ways these things will benefit me without me actually being on the computer. But also as I said, Ido care about looks, my computer sits in my living room for anyone to see that may come over. And as I also pointed out when I am not using my computer, which is more often then I use it, I likely have the desktop up, so the better looking the better. Plus if I can look over at my monitor throughout the day and get usefull info without actually using the computer, that would be great as well.
