guys, how can i find out what socket or slot are my cpu and mobo? i have stock HP Pavilion6340- 300celeron in the factory case. im thinking socket370, but ive also heard slot1. i tried looking everywhere except taking the case off and poking around inside. i am thinking of upgrading cpu and mobo, so i need to know if i need to ditch the case. all depends on what socket/slot. any reply would be appreciated.

A slot cpu will have a cpu socket that is long and narrow, a socket will be square with tiny holes all over it.
If you have a cpu in it the fan will be on the side of a slot and on top of a socket.
You can also go to any motherboard mfg's web site and they will have pictures.

Try www.asus.com

Also ditching the case depends if its a atx case or a at case not the motherboard socket but some oem's have strange wiring inside that may prevent compatability.

If the power supply connects to the board with one solid plug its probably a atx.
If its 2 seperate plugs its probably a at.
Another thing is a at will have a large plug that you hook your keyboard up to and a atx will have a small one called a ps2.
If your pc is less than 2 years old and you bought it new its most likley a atx.
