I haven't kept up with the tablet market in some time now but I want to look at what's out there to replace my Nexus 7 (2012). My 7 just seems memory starved trying to run 5.x and it's getting tiring waiting on it to think about things before doing what I wanted. I really like the form factor of the 7 as it's easy to hold in one hand, etc. I was hoping they'd keep the 7 lineup and I'd get a newer one but clearly they aren't doing that. I do like the cleanliness of the Nexus line, but it's not necessary.

I saw Samsung just released a new one in 8" so I guess that's a contender? Not been a huge Samsung fan as their software just seems to slow everything down (even the new stuff, no idea why it takes so long to unlock their devices).

My Nexus 7 2013 running 5.1.1 is really smooth, I enjoy using it daily. You may be able to find them for sale at a huge discount due to the age of the device. Just a thought.

Ditto. Probably still the best 7" tablet out there, made even better with 5.1.1. My 16GB model has everything I need on it, and still only half full.
