What slocket adapter for P3 and BX6.2 mobo?

I have an Abit BX6.2 mobo, and want to upgrade my Celey 550 processor to a p3 700e or 800e (or whatever). I'm using a MSI 6101 slocket adapter for my celeron; will I need a different sloket adapter if I am going to upgrade to a socket based p3?

There's a fry's near me, so if so, then I hope i can run down and pick one up

Hi,

It depends if your adapter supports "Coppermine" type CPU's. If it doesn't then you'll have to get a new one. There were several versions of that adapter made so you'll have to check which one you have.

If you need one and Fry's doesn't have any, I have some MSI ones that will work (brand new). PM me.

I have an old BH-6 board and I´m using an Abit Slotket adapter for my Cel600@900MHz.
First I tried a MSI adapter which worked also but a large cpu-cooler didn´t fit as I remember.

I had an MSI adaptor once but have an abit and asus right now. YOu need to ensure it is fc-pga capable, that is coppermine which is different from the older ppga adaptors although they both fit. The coppermine adaptor does 133fsb and the voltage goes down to the coppermine requirements. They are getting harder to find now but some suppliers should have old stock.

I've got an aol Abit BH6 mobo and I've been looking to upgrade. I can't find an Asus or Abit slotket/slotket online anywhere for a decent price. There is one guy selling the Asus on ebay and his webpage "store" for $40, but I don't know...

On the other hand, I've found a couple generic slockets that are only like $5 or $10, but then the shipping is $18!!! And I've heard that people have had questionable results with the generic ones.

Anybody know of a place online that still carries the Asus or Abit slockets? I checked newegg, computergeeks etc, but have had no luck.

I am not sure where to find them, but I am currently running 3 PCs with Abit BE6-2 MBs and Iwill Slotket II's, 2 with P3-700E's and 1 with a Celeron366a. I originally built the PCs with generic slotkets. To make a long story short, stability was really bad until I replaced the generics with Iwill Slotket II's. Now all my PCs are rock solid.

I have a BX6r2 MB that I just upgraded last night from a cely 300a@450 to a cely 1 gig. I bought a MSI slotket from
Electriclegs. I don't have the box so I'm not sure the model but I do remember it was a r2.4. It does up to 133fsb
and handles fcpga's. The price was $16 each + $4 shipping and these were new, in the box. Electriclegs said he had
about a dozen left when I ordered last Friday. Compuwiz1 posted that these were the most stable adapters he used.
That was what sold me even though the price was a little more than others offered adapters for. Search the FS/FT and
email Electric Legs. PM didn't get a response from him but emails were quickly answered. I have a V5 5500 and Q2
scores at 1024x768x16 jumped from 76fps to 142fps. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I wanted to stay away from the generics because I had heard bad things, but the only name-brands were going to cost me just as much in shipping costs. Thanks for the ElecticLegs recommendation. I think I'm getting the hook up.

That was a MSI MS-6905 slotket adapter (I'm at home now.)
The only problem I had was the bios kept saying the cpu had
been changed and reset the fsb to 66. In the softmenu II
screen in the bios, change to user defined and set the settings
where you want them. Be sure to turn off "speed error check."
I missed this setting and once I did, everything worked fine.

All 3 of my BX6 II`s really liked the Iwill II socklet adapter... Nice low profile and a PEP66 would fit nicely...

i found the Asus slocket was the most stable at high front side bus. the iwill slocket ii and abit slocket iii came in 2nd place.


the iwills and abits had the best latching mechanism on them.........



and pep66 worked very well for this adaptation

FRY's Do NOT have SLOCKET-CONVERTER,

I know, I asked, and try that route already

Since you live down in Orange County CA, I would just head down to a local Computer Swap Meet

There you can buy a slocket converter in the morning, tested, and return it immediately if it didn't work

I did just that, and I'm runnin a Celeron 566mhz OC 876mhz on a generic converter.

Another bump for ElectricLegs as I also received an MSI 6905. The version # was 2.3 which is the newest and best one made by MSI. I thought the price was VERY good considering these things are as rare as a P3 1.10 cpu lately
