Both my 2002 BMW M3 and 2006 BMW 330i use 225/45ZR18s in front and 255/40ZR18s in back. I have Continental ContiSport Contact M3s on the M3 and Hankook Ventus V12 Evos on the 330i.

Understeer central?

I wouldn't go that far. Like pretty much any road car they tend somewhat toward understeer, but as one would expect of a BMW they're both perfectly balanced and handle very well. The M3 obviously has plenty of power to induce oversteer with a bit of throttle.
