I have a Dynex 42" TV DX-42E250A12 and the screws I have for my old TV stand are too short as the VESA mounting holes are not flush with the back of the TV, but sunk in a bit. I plan on going to Home Depot but not sure what size or length to get. I have the 4 screws that are too short and can bring one with me, but sometimes finding somebody in the store the help can be a real challenge.

you need m6.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_metric_screw_thread

you can determine length by attaching things (screwing in your current screw) and measuring how much longer you need to fit the mount.
In this case if you still have the original stand, you'd probably stick it through the each of the stands and see how much pops out.

If you don't have the original stand, you can screw it into the back of the TV and see how much pops out and use that to estimate the required length (based on how much of the screw the new stand takes up).

The screws that come with the TV should be 12mm == ~ 1/2". So the length of the screw required would be ~12mm + whatever additional length you need.

You could also buy some washers or spacers as a precaution if you get screws that are a bit too long (though this shouldn't be necessary if you buy slightly shorter screws, or the exact length required ;)).

I'm not using the screws for the stand that came with the TV but for the wall mount holes. Are those also m6?

Thanks.

Grabbed some m6 20mm and 30mm as I wasn't sure what length would work (the old screws were 10mm). Bought a bunch of washers and some spacers as well. I ended up using the 30mm w/ 2 washers each and it's a perfect fix. Took me 50 minutes to find everything as the drawers in Home Depot were a mess, nothing where it was supposed to be, and mostly bare of the parts I needed. I think I got the last of everything I listed.

Thanks a ton fralexandr! You saved the day. :D
