Hello again,
I really dont know if i should get a 22inch or 24inch gaming lcd.
Could you guys help me decide?
Atm I'm playing on a 19inch screen and I'm just finding it to small...
What would you recommend 22 or 24?
Also is the GTX260 powerful enough to run a 24 at its native resolution?
Take Crysis for example could it run that on a 24 with veryhigh settings?
Thanks

LOL you will need to invest in an SLI/CF rig to play crysis on very high at 1920x1200. most other games though you shouldnt have a problem playing at 19x12. take a look in the LCD thread (Sticky at top of VC&G forums) though before you decide which monitor to buy, there are some 24 inch monitors which you simply shouldnt game on, but which have mid range color quality in exchange for input lag. to get a really good 19x12 monitor (color quality + low input lag) you will have to spend big $$$ on an IPS panel, but for gaming most people are happy with a 1650x1080 22 inch panel. there are some 22 inch TN panels (listed in the LCD thread) which have no input lag and are exceptional panels for gaming. im probably going to buy one once i get my main monitor replaced with one of said $$$ 26 inch IPS panels. also, when buying a high resolution monitor, keep in mind that you will generally need a higher quality graphics card to drive it at its native resolution, and for people who dont upgrade their video card as often this can be a drawback for some, since they will have to put in upgrades more often or spend a TON on each video card upgrade to make it last for more than 2 years

Don't go with 24" for gaming.. 1680x1050 is hard enough to run with all the bells and whistles. Besides, PC gaming you are usually only 2-3' away from the screen so why go so big?

i think 22" is the sweet spot for lcds. The price jump from 17" to 19" to 22" is so small that it's a no brainer, but the price jump from a 22" to a decent 24" is ridiculous.

Immersion factor. When you're playing and your whole viewing range is game it's awesome. On my 27" I cannot even see the wall etc behind the screen.

Exactly. I'm also using a 27" monitor, and it's great for games and movies, even though it's the same rez as a 24" monitir.

get 22". 1680x1050 is enough for gaming. And you'll get faster frame rates which is more important than size.

I am running a 24" with an 8800GT. In Crysis, I set it to all high, and at 1600x1200. Everything else play awesome @ 1920x1200. Bioshock will get 72fps only dipping down to 40 at that resolution. There is nothing out yet that will truly play crysis on very high and work perfectly. The only thing I have not tried yet is MS Flight Sim 2004. Everything else works great, but I am waiting on Dead Space next week. It might be a tough on this card.

Crysis was playable on medium settings, but I don't plan on wasting my time on it again after the first round. Right now I'm playing Clear Sky, in DX9 mode, and with medium-high settings it runs fine. Some older games like HL2/CS:S, Bioshock, GoW, CoD4 run smoothly with high settings, so for the most part the 8800gt is ok at 1920x1200.

Maybe if your main goal is maintaining stats on your favorite twitch shooter server. The only MP game I play is TF2, which runs silky smooth at 1920x1200 with a 8800gt, and for all the other, slower-paced games I would never go back to a smaller screen even if it meant faster framerates.

Hmm well if a 8800GT can power a 24 and 27inch then a GTX260 OC'd should be able to handle it.
Who else has a GTX260 with a 24inch?
Whats it like?

there is no difference between the resolutions of those 24 and 27 inchers = 19x12 .. and an 8800GTX is way the hell underpowered for 19x12 [period!]
--it would suck if you really like details plus AA/AF to run on a GT260

i have GTX280 and it is barely sufficient imo
- X2 is where is it at for 19x12

go for 22" and you will be glad for next year's games

EDIT: You might consider picking up a 19x12 24" LCD and running it with "centered timings" at 16x10; in effect you get a 22" monitor - you get the black bars around the image - and for older games, you can play at native resolution. ;)

man all these different answers make me wonder if the 4850 I just ordered is going to be sufficient for my 24". I'm not even going to play crysis. I just wanna play cod 4, dow, ra3, and diablo 3 + sc2 when they come out.

I'm going to make this easy: my monitor and speaker system are the only computer components which I consider a good investment a year after I bought them, everything else becomes obsolete and disposable in a matter of months.

Yeah I'm going to go with a 22inch screen.
Although I will be getter faster framerates on 22inch.
24inch would still be a really good size to game on espiecally when your sitting close to it.

I own a 24" monitor..it rocks for gaming however..

The FX power required to go from 22" to 24" is pretty signifcant.

I'm using a GTX 280..which was pretty pricey.

22" is the perfect spot IMO...if I didn't get my 245BW for 189$ on black friday I would have definately gone smaller.

30" there can be nothing else. I just went from a 24" to a 30" and I would never go back now. My GTX 280 handles everything maxed just fine except for Crysis.

I have a 24in with a GTX280, previously had an 8800GTS 640MB. The 8800GTS was fine for most games that I played at max detail until Crysis came along (a few others were a bit clunky, Stalker etc).

On my GTX280, Crysis with everything maxed and no AA/AF is playable for me, some scenes get clunky (big explosions, ice level etc) but I can still aim fine. I would not want to play multiplayer with those settings though. But really, Crysis is not that good of a game, played through it once mainly because of how impressive the graphics are. I've been playing mostly TF2, GRID, Mass Effect, Bioshock etc which are all fine maxed with AA/AF.

With max detail a 260 OC'd will probably be acceptable in Crysis if you can handle some chugging on really complex scenes. Seriously though, you won't play Crysis for more than 10 hours, it's not very good. Warhead is another couple of hours and from what I've read Far Cry 2 plays at higher FPS than Crysis.
