What site lists copy protection scheme by game? (need to backup)

I have games which I bought and would like to make backup copies of for every day use (store the orginals). I know some of the older ones don't have CP, but many new ones do. Is there a site I can refer to so that I can determine which schemes my games have to make back up copies.

BTW, my CDRW is a LiteOn 16101b which can do about everything except SD2.

That might be a good one. I've got Arcanum and want to back it up.... didn't see it on the list though.

Thanks

Most CD copy protection can be defeated with Clonecd, find it, buy it, use it. Good application.

CloneCD is awesome replicating software but you still would need to know the protection scheme to determine the settings...

Well worth the small investment

"How soon we forget"

Some of us didn't have anything to forget since we never saw the message in the first place. So....

OK... I read the link and will respect Anandtechs policy. I haven't memorized all of the policy guidelines so its easy to make a mistake now and then. I understand the position they are in, even if users have "legitimate" & "legal" reasons to make backups. Of course you would probably need a copywrite lawyer to find out what the truth is! Fortunately I have a brother-in-law out in Silicon Valley CA who works as a software copywrite attorney - I'll have to see what he says about all this!

Thanks all.

It wasn't really an insult on you for posting it, it was ment for the mods to see so perhaps they'd consider adding it to the forum summary paragraph or permantly locking it. Even though it was stickey'ed at the top of Software for about a month, we still get questions about it.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to back up your games at all? I've never found out why people do this. Have you had CD's go bad, or accidentally damaged them? I backup important files religiously, but I've never felt the need to backup a game CD(or really any CD).

I use to want to backup some games(such as NFS games) that required a cd for every system in a LAN game. Now I am wiser though, I just get the no-cd patches for my games. :)

I know some peeps who back up their games and HIDE the originals after having little brothers or nephews start playing frisbee with their $50 investments. Also good for children's software for the same reason. Doesn't take much PBJ to fux0r3d the works.
