What single player game did you play the longest?

I started X2 around 4 weeks ago and I'm already near 50 hours (and I'm building my own little economy).

I could literally see myself still playing this same game (off and on) a year from now. I only have 7 or 8 factories spread out over 3 sectors, and I haven't even explored the entire map yet. I figure I'm not very far into the main plot yet, but that doen't matter since it just seems to be a way to get into the various aspects of the game.

I probably played Morrowind for 70-80 hours; Gothic 2 took me about 75 hours.

So, just out of curiosity, what's the longest amount of time people here have played the same single player game.

Does anybody still have a really old game going (like Daggerfall)?

Baldur's Gate II; I've played it on and off for over 6 years (and counting).

Edit: Oh wait, you said singleplayer. Age of Empires II doesn't count then (unless you count scenario building, which I've always done and still do today).

How long did your longest single game take? Or do you mean you still play the same game you started 6 years ago off and on?

BG 2. Nothing else comes close. It may feel like I've spent more time in Morrowind or Oblivion, but I really havent.
Age of Mythology and Act of War would be close behind. I never play them online but I love going against the AI.

My longest single game took around a month (was happily taking my time and experimenting with just about everything I could). But in the past 6 years I've just about always had a game in progress at some point.

Over One Thousand three hundred hours in Oblivion
- 1,000 (plus) hours (without using the console or cheats) to reach level 92 where Maxx, my character completely maxed out
[i.e. You Cannot Improve Upon Perfection]
--- then, over 300 more hours with the high level mods and expansions

It was not a waste of time imo; i learned the game's mechanics like few others [including the height of the White Tower and exploring the NPC AI]
.. i was the first player to report 1,000 hours on the TES forums
. . . and a 'discovery' or two 🙂

Morrowind. I put several hundred hours into each game I played of that (probably close to a thousand hours combined, actually). I tried to do the same with Oblivion but got really sick of it after about 100 hours.

Probably ~250 in Baldur's Gate Trilogy + MODS (30GB of goodness). FF10 about 160 hours to max everyone and get all the legendary weapons. Resident Evil 5 about 150 hours, 100% unlock. Oblivion around 120.

FF7 hundreds of hours, I love that game! newer game, GTA3 I played quite a bit. Never got too into Oblivion the whole npc's level with you kinda pissed me off.

there is a guy over at the stalker forums who has been playing the same game of SOC for so long that the seasons changed and it started snowing 🙂

Technically I'm still on my first play-through of Crysis (I'm about a third of the way through) that I started several months ago, maybe even close to a year ago, but I can't imagine going back and playing it again.

Baldurs Gate 2 for about 300 hrs. God only knows about Diablo 2 because I haven't counted, and its the game I always play a few minutes at a time when I'm busy doing something and can't play for long. It's been installed on every computer I've had since it came out.

It'd have to be Oblivion, but I stopped playing it about a year ago. I must have spent/wasted more than 500+ hours in that game. At the moment Fallout 3 is slowly but surely shaping up to be the new winner, it ain't so yet because it's still new, but ask me the same question in a year or two and I'm pretty sure my answer would then be Fallout 3, I don't have much choice either since I'm modding for it, and testing can take me up to 6+ hours per game-play session, that's not even playing for myself. That's for single-player though, multi-player is a whole different story, one which would inevitably belong to Diablo II: LoD.

I can tell that Neverwinter Nights is going to take me a while since I insist on slowly bashing each chest. A single Falcon 4 campaign can run for weeks, I'd imagine.

Definitely Morrowind. Spent at least a thousand hours on my longest active character...

Sadly, I can only play Oblivion for a week before losing interest.

Could be BG2 (minus expansions.) Normally people do "challenges" after they've beaten the game silly as part of what makes challenges possible is prior knowledge of how the game unfolds. I was feeling a bit adventurous when it first came out, so I soloed a mage on max difficulty as my first playthrough. Some of the umm... more challenging battles is largely responsible for the number of hours I logged (don't even know how many now)...

Might be Thief 1 as well. When I first got that game, I misinterpreted Expert difficulty's "you can't kill anyone" requirement to also mean you can't blackjack them either. I actually went through the game on expert w/o killing OR blackjacking any humans. THAT was fun (mission 2 alone took me close to a week.) Unfortunately, when I was up to a second playthrough, I found out you COULD blackjack on expert and that took the fun away...
