From this thread about homeowners subsidizing schools for the poor that have tons of kids:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2276858

ok, that thread changed my mind about homeowners (ie: me) paying for schools.
re: pay for schools or pay for more prisons

And in that case, i say the rich should substidize mandatory birth control for those who dont own homes!

What else SHOULD the 2% subsidize for?

Fun fact... when you went to school you were subsidized... Even at private schools the wealthy often pay more than those without the means to do so.
Unless you didn't go to school in which case I could see why you are so upset about it. :p

Basic healthcare and "oh shit" healthcare.

IE doctor visits and managed to catch flesh eating bacteria while hiking visits. If you are gonna smoke and then get lung cancer I'm not saying they should foot the bill, but the rich shouldn't have to pay for something preventable.

There should also be a limit to how advanced the care is that people get. The more innovation in healthcare there is it just increases the cost. Cost of therapy should start getting taken into account with alot of these biotech treatments. Like liposomal DNA delivery treatment for those born missing a functional gene. Expensive as hell. The DNA has to be engineered. Every single cell is missing the gene. Its just literally not possible for everyone to get treatment like that, we'd go broke.

Thesa-daysa I'm starting to think the rich actually just wanted cooler toys from science, and so to bring the cost of science, engi and math down they pushed alot of people through college.

The problem is most of the money gets eaten in bureaucracy, fraud, and corruption. The other problem is who decides who's rich. According to the government, I'm stinking rich considering how much they take. :p

NOTHING.

The subsidies may exist on a state or local level, depending on circumstances. But if we're talking nationally mandated subsidies for something like abortions, diversity quota education, or free cell phones... Hell no.

Because we live in a Democracy, where a poor man's vote counts as much as a rich man's.

Who do you think will collect 5% on those bonds, anyway? Poor people?

I see problems at both sides of the spectrum, the rich who exploit the system to their own gain while screaming "YOU DIDN'T WORKED HARD ENOUGH LIKE ME" and the dirt poor who think it is their "right" for the rest of the society to carry the burden of their basketball team of babies.

Here's an idea. We give the top 10 percent of the wealthy a 5 percent tax break. BUT, if at least 51 percent of the employees of the companies invested in by the wealthiest 10 percent aren't American, they pay 30% income tax.

Pretty good idea, the rich pay for all birth control and a woman has to pay $10,000 to get off it in order to have a kid. If she can't afford $10,000 then she can't afford a kid anyways.

Ahh, insane flights of self righteous fantasy.

Few honest working couples could possibly pay your tariff, people who do, in fact, successfully raise children entirely outside of any sort of welfare. Lots of people who do so never have $10K in cash their whole lives, let alone when they're starting out, during prime child bearing years.

How bout the rich just give back to the gov't all of those billions and billions of $$$ they got from corrupting our politicians into giving them all of those favorable exclusive tax breaks, corporate welfare, loopholes in the tax code, all the policies/legislation that tilted the economic playing field all their way, the blood money they got from Bush starting his shock and awe war in Iraq and on and on and on BEFORE we even consider how this disingenuous idea of subsidizing the poor is discussed?

They should pay back as much as they've been given through the system of graft installed in 1913. The wealthy have been wealthy because the system is rigged in their favor with the amount of money being pumped into economy that directly benefits their investments.

Difficult to quantify, so it's better to just end the system as opposed to pumping it up from one side, and trying to remove all that from taxation.

Both the wealthy and the poor have an entitlement mentality, it's just the wealthy think their wealth was earned by their hard work and ingenuity which is why they are entitled to it, and the poor feel they never had a chance in the first place so they are entitled to their benefits. It's much simpler to just remove what makes it all so unbalanced in the first place.

My apologies to the OP for assuming he is being disingenuous. After reflection, I realized I made that assumption in haste. My bad. :$

Gee man look at the % you sited , Now what point of view is going to be the dominating one. Both groups want something, THE 95% want the 5% money. The 5% want to keep what they have . I Don't think there should be a tax. When we say we have deficit, That means We didn't pay interest we owe the federal reserve and aquirer more deficit , So the Fed floats Gobs more cash, Further creating even more deficit till were at a point , money is wothless . Because the Rich will keep getting richer. WE only owe china like Bonds . Thats not the same at all, THE fed is the Rothschild family withpeople like rockerfellor and such setting at the table. THIS is who we owe the money to , I say go bankruptcy on the Most horrifing people on earth. Print our own silver backs

False, we live in a republic.

You're a regular fountain of misinformation, aren't you?

I know, it is crazy that people don't know that. Maybe something to with the US military trying to install a democracy in these middle eastern countries when we don't even have one of our own.

Fun fact: without poor people to buy junk, the rich wouldn't be rich.
