What should I use to remove spray paint?

In its prior life, my motorcycle had been dumped and somebody spraypainted over the dent in the (blue) tank with (yellow) spray paint. Some of it has worn off, and I can scrape some off with my fingernail and the paint underneath looks okay. There's a massive amount of overspray, and it'll be much less noticeable if I can clean it up.

Any ideas?

Your best bet is to strip the entire tank and repaint it. This will give you the opportunity to properly repair the dent in the tank too.

I don't have any suggestions, but my cousin is a Corvette collector and had mentioned to a friend that he'd like to have one of them painted. His 4 year old son later got a can of spray paint and started the job for him 🙂

OHHH NO! That's gotta break your heart.

claybar should pull the overspray. If the finish is baked on from the factory, lacquer thinner may only pull off the spray paint. I'd find a forum for your bike and ask there, tank repairs would probably be popular esp redoing someone else's work.

Yeah..I will end up taking it to a body shop to have the whole thing done, but it's painfully ugly right now. 😱

+1 on the clay bar. Is there a clear coat on the original finish? If so just lube it up nice and good and go gentle and be patient (no innuendo intended), and polish out the clear after.
