Okay this is my current system....
K62 450Mhz
Epox MVP3G2 with 1mb cache
128MB PC100 Generic RAM
Maxtor 20.4gb hdd
3dfx Voodoo3 2000AGP@167Mhz
Memorex 48x CDROM
Iomega ZipCD CDRW 4x4x24
The old SoundBlaster 64 Gold ISA
1.5mb down 384kb up adsl
with a cheap case and 250watt power supply
Intel 10/100B

i need your help to decide what parts to upgrade and if you say to upgrade it all what should i start off with.... I use this computer for mostly gaming..some 3d modeling ( just basic stuff nothing complex yet....and internet usage. I dont mind overclocking and i am not biased with the whole Intel/AMD thing so give me all your ideas. I am looking to spend $1000-$2000 but i dont really want to spend too much so try to be conservative. Thanks :)

The first thing that comes to mind would be to upgrade the CPU and motherboard.....

Personally, I would wait and upgrade to a Duron. You could sell your current K62/MVP3, and use the funds towards the Duron/MB combo....

Even though I would be content with the V3 2K, you may want faster....Maybe a GeForce SDR/DDR, since they are pretty cheap now..

Other minor upgrades would be the soundcard, and the case...

Do you have a good monitor? People always seem to forget about upgrading the monitor :)

Ditto with what Relf said. That K62 is really holding you back. If I were you I'd get a new processor, in the region of 700-800mhz. Then perhaps a few months down the line a new video card.

MB and CPU here also. Something with a speed of 700 or higher. Then I would upgrade to more mem if you use 3d rendering. That would help some.

But with that 15" monitor.... I would get something bigger.... at least a 19". IMHO.....

I would go with a duron and a newer motherboard. I think the soundcard should go too.

Agreed...Duron+Abit mobo. I would then get a Geforce2 mx. Before I got any of that stuff, I think you should blow your wad on a nice monitor. I think many of us neglect the monitors for faster hardware. This is a mistake(that I have made) because a good 19 or 21 inch monitor could last you for years.
As far as gaming...no piece of hardware has improved the fun of my gaming as much as the move from 14inch...to 20inch.

If you are going to overclock, make sure your RAM can handle the bus speeds....
