What should I stick under my optical mouse?

This is my first optical mouse, and so far I am a bit disappointed. I never had a problem with ball mice.

But this optical mouse seems pretty "jumpy" with the cursor.

I was wondering what is the best thing to stick under it? My computer desk which is colored black and slightly shinny doesn't work well with it. I tryed using a piece of white paper, and while that works a lot better then using the top of my desk, it seems a bit "jumpy" and not as easy to control the movement as I would like.

I meant something cheap, that i might have around the house.

Or is buying something "professional" is the only thing that probably will steady my mouse movement?

a fUnc is cheap. like 10 bucks. hmm i dont know. depends on what mouse you have?

btw: you know you can change the movement speed in control panel --> mouse?

Hmm I just use a fabric-covered mousepad I had around the house and it works fine. In fact, it worked fine just on the top of my desk, which was smooth wood (but not shiny) but it was tearing up the little plastic "feet" on the bottom of the mouse.

I know....lol

I am going to college for computer science, and been a computer nerd since i was born.

It is a Memorex Wireless Optical Scroll Mouse.

I found a review on it, before I bought it. The review said it was good. And it looks like it would have potential if the movement was more "steady" and easier to control. Seems to be little tiny "pauses" in the movement (and this has nothing to do with the mouse control panel).

The pauses increased to the point where it was impossible to use, if I tryed using it on the top of my desktop. On the plain white paper, the pauses decrease to tiny almost unnoticeable. But there seems to be tiny pauses in the movement of the cursor and some "jerkiness".

Not sure if that is from the surface that I am using it on or not. But I am pretty sure its related to the surface that it is on.

Cloth over foam, that's the way to go. :) I bought a pad made by Allsop @ Best Buy about 4 years ago. It's still in pretty good shape, and was less than $10.

I got it working now a lot better. I think the problem I was having was a conflict between the wireless mouse and my intel wireless keyboard.

By the way, I just discovered after installing this item, that it is Viewsonic that is the actual true manufacturer of the item. Memorex just puts their name on it (like they do with everything else they make.). I don't think Memorex actually manufacturers one item that they sell.

Anyways, this wireless mouse is made by viewsonic, so I'm happy. That is a pretty reliable manufacturer.
