If you want to read "Band of Brothers" the book, pick up D-Day by Stephen Ambrose. Many of the lines from Saving Private Ryan come from that book. I saw the movie a year after reading to book and realized how much was based on the real experiences of soldiers. The follow up "Citizen Soldiers" follows the Army from the Hurtgen Forest through the Bulge.

What is stopping you from reading them both? RBC is a pretty quick read, TS not much longer. Enjoy, both are good books.

If you are in high school, read "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".. Please! It's such a good book - it's the only book that kept me thinking about it weeks afterward..

"Catcher in the Rye" is okay.. I loved "Huck Fin" and "Tom Sawyer" .. but trust me, read "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest"

Another good read is "How To Win Friends And Influence People" by Dale Carnegie.

Red Badge of Courage will take you two days to read at most. It is a really short book. In short:

Young boy is inspired by the war propaganda
Boy joins army
Boy goes to war
Boy sees some horrible things
Boy becomes Man

I won't spoil the ending, but it is a very quick read.

Tom Sawyer is very entertaining and much more accesible.

If you want a war book, read The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan.

Please read Tom Sawyer and save yourself the agony of reading (and sleeping through) the Red Badge of Courage. Stephen Crane has to be the most boring author of all time. At least Twain had Character.

the most boring author was EDITH WHARTON who wrote Ethan Frome. Worst book I read in high school. It wasn't even have a good writing style, because if a book is well witten it can make up for a lack of a good story.

You may think RBC is the American novel (I'd argue Grapes of Wrath or Sound and Fury), but Tom Sawyer is a "Modern day warrior!"

Mean, mean pride.

Man, if you want a good war book, pick up Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy. I realize the book is rather long, but I swear it's so f'in sweet. It's about the 3rd world war and Clancy is the master at writing military fiction.

I'd start with Red Storm Rising, and then look at some of the others he's written. Patriot Games, Red October, Bear. Hell, they are all fantastic.
