Then I realized it was you. :D

i live about 40 minutes away from the nearest target or walmart. and bout 1.5 hours away from the nearest best buy/circuit city or real shopping mall. so yah. it kinda sucks.

edit: also. there is not even a stop light for about 25-30 miles from my house.

i do love it most of the time. but it sucks for shopping for anything cause you have to plan your trips out and go once in a while. all the local shops are a ripoff because we are a tourist town and they make there living by jacking up prices for the tourists. but they just opened a pamida in town so that eliminates alot of the trips. but overall i do love not being anywhere near a city.

A $40.00 item is not worth your time and trouble, especially considering the distance. Consider it a gift of appreciation for your patronage.

Call and talk to the manager. Explain the situation. OFFER to pay for it on your next visit.

Has anybody actually walked into Target with a barcode and a credit card and done that? I find it hard to believe they would even go for something as odd as that, but what the hell do I know. I also assume that if he talked to the manager that he'd just tell him to keep it, but again...

I wouldn't bother making a special trip or anything, like others have said just keep the barcode with you. There is a good chance they'll do nothing about it when you tell them what happened. If you need immediate satisfaction call Target and see what they say.

$40.00 or honesty...based on your responses only to the ones that would make the post in your favor of keeping it, you are choosing the $40.00.

I have had the opposite happen. Wife bought one item, was charged for two, took the receipt back and they took her word for it that she only bought one and they refunded her the money for the second one. Not sure if that helps you make your decision...

I wouldn't make a special trip that far out just for this though.

I think you should pay target an extra dollar interest for every day you don't pay for the game you thief.

No, no, no. Send me the unopened game. I will return it to the Target that's only 5mi away from me.

Seriously, it wasn't your fault that they didn't ring it up. You weren't trying to steal it. If they double ring you up of an item, they are not going to call you up and give you back a refund. I would say keep it. Finders keeper.

If you want to have clear conscience, either call the manager up, make sure to talk to the manager not an employee, to explain the situation or donate the money to charity.

Either way, since you post it here instead of sweeping it under the rug like most people would here, you are being honest and I will give you that.

Call and ask what to do. Tell them you can't get back to the store any time soon. I've done that before and they've said to just keep the item.

Yep, the fact that you're asking about it means that it's bothering you. Stick the bar code in your billfold and next time you're near a Target, go to the customer service section there and tell them about it.

 for integrity

I'd call them. Depending on your local/state laws, it could be considered theft of mislaid property/etc.
