What should I do?

I was shopping at Target tonight. I bought a bunch of stuff and I wasn't charged for World In Conflict which should have added ~$40 to the bill. Because of the amount of money I spent, I didn't notice the discrepancy until I got home when I was dividing up the recipt up among different expenses.

What should I do now? It's a 40 minute drive to Target and I don't really want to make a special trip but I don't know if I'll get a chance to go back there while I'm home. Should I cut up the barcode and take it with me on my next trip? Should I make a special trip to pay it? Should I consider myself lucky to have been given a "discount?"

I suppose I could also call them and speak to a manager and see what he recommends...

I applaud your honesty and recommend keeping the barcode in your wallet. You could also mail a check and the barcode to the store manager.

I think you should keep the barcode and pay next time. Sounds like the best option to me.

Put the receipt and barcode in your glovebox, the next time you're there pay for it.

I would call and ask to speak to the manager, they could probably charge your CC over the phone, or you might even be able to call their online CSR and explain the situation, order the game online and then just not have them send you one.

Hey, I have a similar problem. I found a $100 bill lying in the street. Should I canvas the community with pictures of the bill and see if anyone lost it, or have it dusted for fingerprints and hire a PI to track down the owner?

If I'd noticed while at the register or even while near the store I would have gone back in & paid for it, however at this point I would write it off ... its not like the cashier is going to get fired over it or get in trouble like a bank-teller with un-accounted for cash.

However thats just what I'd do & you really need to make your own call ... if its going to be bother you, then you should take the bar-code back to the store on your next visit & pay as has already been suggested.

Actually, now that I think about it, someone's going to be short some money on their register. I was thinking that no one at the store would care and neither should the OP. But depending on the store's register policy, the cashier could be in a small amount of trouble for being short. It's an exceedingly remote possibility that anyone would get fired over $40, but it could happen.

I wouldn't return simply because I'm a bad person.

No, no one would be short. She never rang up the game so it's basically like I stuck it under my arm and walked out. Sorta.

Thats not even close to being the same thing.....yet lets take that even further,,,what if as you were picking up the $100 bill some old lady hollared at you -- Sonny-- I dropped a $100 bill with that I was going to use to buy grocery`s or even medicine...you don`t have to answer this..we all know you would keep the $100 bill.....sad...but probably true!!

Yep, the fact that you're asking about it means that it's bothering you. Stick the bar code in your billfold and next time you're near a Target, go to the customer service section there and tell them about it. You'll walk out feeling good for having done the right thing. And if I was there, I'd give you a pat on the back and buy you a :beer:.
