What should I do?

Here's the choice I was given:

Keep my cushy 8-4 M-F position, or work 8-4 Tues-Sat with a 10% increase in pay. That way my weekend would be Sunday and Monday.

Now, I have two young kids in school and if we ever do anything, it' usually on Sat. That's a pretty good chunk of change, and we don't go on weekend trips often, but it'll be hard giving up a proper weeking.

What should I do?

IMO keep what you have to spend as much time with the kids as possible, unless this change can lead to further advancements in your career and will be somewhat temp. Good luck with the decision. 🙂

yeh, giving up 50% of your time with kids and family may not be worth 10% raise 🙂. After taxes that 10% raise might be more like 7%.

Well, if you get home in the early evenings you should still be able to hang with the chillins during the week. Plus, you can start doing things on Sunday instead.

However, if it came down to money or free time, I'd choose time myself. Otherwise, why make the money?

But we only do things one every three months or so, so i figure I could take a vacation day if we need to go somewhere. We're talking another $4000 or so a year here. I think I'm going to do it.

Take the increase in pay and let the kids stay home from school once in a while, no harm in that, and everyone wins.

Why can't you do things with them on Sundays? Is this a custody arrangement?

If not and if you don't hate your job, take the money.

Although family over money is the ideal, quality of life should also factor into decisions. Money is directly tied to quality of life and opportunities to earn more shouldn't be so quickly dismissed in the name of family because more money is also beneficial to the family.

Acting for the company by accomodating their needs could lead to future promotions or at least the ability to tell prospective future employers that your last job liked you well enough to give you a pay raise.

$4k/yr isn't that bad that amounts to $333/mo gross.

If you think you will be HAPPY and still maintain enough time for your family then do it.

Weekend trips you dolt. We only go out of town once every couple of months.

Seems like you already made your decision. 🙂

Yeah, that's how I do things here. I get the general opinion of the ATOT community, then do the exact OPPOSITE. That way I know I'm doing the right thing 🙂
