What should I do with this lousy ....store

I purchased a Geforce3 ti200 from this store, it's like a little computer outlet store. You know, it was a good deal @ $149 a month ago... I mean I get the card, and it's burnt up already- i'm like wtf? so I take it back and they said they'd exchange it for me, but none were in stock- so they held on to the card. So I waited and waited for a replacement ( since Jan 20) and each time I go to check they are always like "a couple more days man, we're expexting some more in a couple days" .... this has been going on for weeks now. I mean the guy gave me my recepit and wrote on it "Paid, to be picked up" ..... I think these guys are trying to take my money and my trust for granted, and now it's really starting to get to me. I called them the other day and they said "you just want to take the card and talk to the manufacteror yourself?" .....i'm like "nooo i bought it from you and you have my money, why should I have to hassle with it"

What should I do? :\

Demand a refund. They have not cured their breach (failed to provide you with a working card) in a reasonable time. Did you pay for it with a credit card? You might take it up with the CC company if they will not process a refund.

No :\ i unfortunantly paid in cash, and i think he wants to keep my dough in his hands as long as he can. But I will try what you said.... what would you say in general is a 'reasonable time'?

"Reasonable time" would be may be twice as long as they originally told you. So if they said a week then two might be reasonable. (IMHO)

Alright i'll bring that up to 'him'...if he refuses...what should I do? It's my hard earned cash.... i don't feel like waiting almost another month when the card will be out of date to get my product =\

That sounds good, just say that.

If none of those approaches work, you may be screwed. However, you could tell him that you're going to spread the word around far and wide about his business and tell people how you were treated. Small shops are usually hanging on by their fingernails anyways, so a local boycott can really hurt them. Hanging around the local computer game store and telling everyone who will listen is a good start, as are fliers on cars or poles. 🙂

Talk to your local Chamber of Commerce and see if they have any ideas.

true, but after bitching at him, he finally 'drove' up to where he's getting them and said he'll be back tomorrow with one for me. That's right *stern look*....actually I would have gone and picked it up for him (desperate because of my voodoo3 currently) but u know that doesnt work 😛

If you still don't get it you could always make a big sign and carry it around in front of the store. Protesting is OK.

East Dearborn? This wouldn't be a little store on the edge of Lincoln Park, off of the Southfield, would it? Those guys are pirates. They screwed me once on a motherboard. Sold me a DOA board at a computer show. When I went to their store to EXCHANGE IT (didn't even ASK for a refund at first - I needed the board), they mysteriously didn't have any in stock, wanted me to wait two weeks to get another, and wouldn't give me my money back. Like you, I had unfortunately paid cash (this was a 2-3 years ago, before I knew better), so I didn't have much leverage. I still see them at computer shows. I just give them a dirty look and walk on by - don't care what their prices are. A valuable lesson learned. NEVER, EVER, pay cash for ANYTHING worth more than $50 at a computer show. If you charge it, you can screw them back if they screw you. If you pay cash, thye've got ya right where they want ya. 🙂
