and then give him the next 2 days off and let the two morons think he really quit.

Make sure he cleans out his cube so it looks like he's gone.
 
Give him the day off, call the two employees in to the office the next morning and tell them that you got a call from the police that he had committed suicide the night before. A note he left said that without his job he just couldn't go on living.


Then announce a ban on all pratical jokes, after a suitable time of letting them think about it.
 
Call them into a conference room and tell them that your boss' boss got wind of the matter and wants to have a tallk with them. Then don't show up for the meeting.
 
Make them post a thread on AT and tell RD to give it his all.

That's a rotten come back. That joke is similar in kind to your girlfriend saying that she is pregnant and letting it go for an hour. These are not things you do to people.

I'd give him the day off but he wants to tough it out. I told him he has 2 extra days of vacation whenever he wants them.
 


<< I've got a young employee who played a pretty good practical joke to the 2 other guys in my group. He switched their cubes completly from personal pictures to computers on April Fools.

They came in, had a good laugh and he switched it back for them. Whole thing lasted about 10 minutes.

So this morning they decided to get him back by telling him I was going to fire him. Our company has been laying people off constantly for 6 months and everyone is on edge. This kid is young and supports his parents with his job. (They know this too)

The jackasses that did this let it go for over an hour until the kid came to see me red eyed and asked how much time he had left because his mother's life insurance was coming up for renewal. (the woman is ill)

I am MAD. I mean REALLY MAD. I can't fire them but I'd love some input for punishment for these two. Bear in mind this is a big company so it can't be a free for all.:|

Well, now it's your turn.

They pretended he was going to get fired... well, now you pretend they're going to get fired. Tell this guy to leak to the others that they're being fired, but they aren't supposed to know. Then wait a few hours, and call one of them alone (the one you like more) and tell him same thing, that you're playing a joke on the other guy. Have the guy go back and start boxing up his stuff and pretend he's getting fired along with the other guy. Then call the other one in about 20 minutes later.

Or, you can have the guy who got joked on, pretend that he really did get fired, and have him start boxing some stuff up and leave work early for today! hahaha! you can really have fun with this now.

That's a good one. I also agree that giving the guy a day or two off while shoving the workload on the 2 bozos is well within the bounds of reason. Definitely bumps them up in the "layoff queue", if ya ask me.
 
Honestly, other than the issue with the victim's family (which I would agree is an aggravator), I do not think this is that vicious as a practical joke. I would not have done it, but I don't think it is the end of the world either. They definitely escalated the practical joke arms race, though . . .

Call em into your office, but have them wait outside for about 20 minutes. Then bring em in one at a time and tell them why you don't appreciate their 'joke'. Just keep grinding on them until they finally figure out that they need to apologize to the young guy. That might take a while if they really are idiots.

Without the symbolic 'handshake' your team might have some on-going resentment.
 
And after the symbolic handshake, use this incident to ban all future practical jokes. They always seem to escalate into trouble.

You could also send notes home !!! 🙂

Yep. Nothing says "You F@cked up!" like 2 weeks debugging and QA testing.
