I just called Direct and I think they are full of BS, they claim they can get me hd even though DN couldn't because of my tress, here is what they are offering
35.99/month
3 months hbo, starz, cinemax
1 year showtime
cbs, nbc, fox
two hd receivers
10/month hd fee waived for auto pay

No abc?

It's kinda odd not getting the 4 basic channels like that, kind of like someone else said but never had that issue here.

It's a bit odd as they tend to have what you most watch.

Just make sure you see what happens after the 3 month period or such and usually both charge you more after.

maybe it has something to do with the abc station that is in my town, anyway do you guys think it is bullshit about them being able to provide me hd when dn couldn't? I was outside with the dish tech and he pulled out some sort of tool he viewed my treeline with and said hd wouldn't be possible.

I am making the assumption that directv's HD satellites are in a different location. Without someone coming out there, there is no way to guarantee it.

However, just because dish couldn't doesn't mean directv can't.

EDIT: Just looked it up. The satellites carrying HD are in wildly different locations. 129/61.5 degrees(dish) versus 103 degrees(directv)

I did google dish customer service and it came up with them having been awarded a bunch of stuff for having the best service and your issues seems a issue in your area / local company.

I have used both and prefew dish to direct tv and many here seem to share that feeling but they are so close it just comes down to your area for the most part.

Also direct tv has had a lot more legal issues I have seen then dish, to the point where the Attorney General's Office has gone after them.

Fair enough, but I've spent enough time dealing with the corporate office to know it is not just a local thing. The Attorney General has gone after dish too for what its worth. Additionally when my grandpa died they harrassed my grandma for the cancellation fee. Evidence that its not just my state with shitty service from dish.

To each his own, I'm glad some people are happy with dish, but I can never recommend them.

With the issues you had from your area I don't blame you, I think my parents had issues with direct tv before they had switched over to dish but one of the reasons was the dish company was much closer so easier to get help compared to where direct tv was then.

Also, did your grandmother co-sign or were they coming after payment from his funds he had left behind when he passed?

If either then that's somewhat normal as it's still a legal contract and they have every right to collect their fees.

They were married, but he was the only one who signed the contract. I understand the legalities of it, but all she wanted to do was cancel, they refused to waive the $200+ cancellation fee.

I just read this - of the major service industries, the lowest consumer-rated industry is the airline industry, followed closely by cable and dish companies. Not surprising.

Google "Dish network customer support." Also research why Dish network has been fined millions for shady contracts and misleading customers.

Google Comcast customer support and tell me which you would go with? LOL I went with DTV but Comcast had to be the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with.

Between Dish Network and DirectTV I can't decide whats worse, knowing that you are getting fucked for two years, or actually signeing up to get anally raped by one of these companies. Get cable, you can bundle with high speed internet and still get better reception without a contract. Part of the reason I believe satellite suck is the fact that you buy a two year contract, thats guaranteed money regardless of the value of the service, their contracts are written in a way to insure they always make their bid. Cable is based on value of service, if the service sucks they will take care of you or they lose your business. They want your business so they will make concessions. Dish says, we are already guaranteed your money why should we care what you want, we will get our money out of you regardless of what you want. Cancel you service, and we get a cancellation fee.

Not really. Dish has an option where you do not have to sign a contract. I would know since I have that.
All cable companies including satellite tv are run by assholes.

I'm with Dish right now and no issues with them at all, no contract either, I can cancel anytime. When I switched from Cablevision (Optimum Online), I had an old Satellite TV dish and used that instead of installing a new one. But apparently it didn't pick up the HD Satellite, only standard and after ironing out the issue, installer came by the next day with all the stuff, mounted the new satellite on a new location, boom everything is smooth. Free of charge, no extra installation charges. Also, they have been giving me free Stars and Encore for a year.

No complaints with them at all, it seems like I lucked out at my location.

Well my parents had switched over to DirectTV a bit ago and they are unable to access the dvr or do anything on the second tv other then watch live tv unlike they were able to do with dish.

I would like to know why directTV has to have multiple receivers for a second tv and charge extra for being able to access your dvr on them when dish lets you do that for free and they have had that ability for a long time now.

Are directTV dvr's that outdated that they can't do something similar or is this just a excuse to charge extra like it seems by the website?

You either have to have multiple receivers or a dual DVR. Dual DVR is not free. You is confused.

They had one that was around 5 years old or so before switching to directTV and they didn't get charged extra for it, all they had to pay extra was for the dvr while it seems directTV charges extra for both the dvr and for letting you use it on both tv's.

For the dish dvr that lets you use it on multiple tv's it was like $6 a month fee yet the directTV dvr it's around $7 a month for it and a extra $13 they say to be able to use it on multiple tv's.
