What should I do in this situation with Dish Network?

I called and had service setup, the tech came out today and installed everything. The trees around my yard are preventing me from getting HD(I could get HD in 09 when I last had DN) so the tech just gave me the sd receiver. Since I am paying for the service and signed a contract, should I have requested the HD receiver anyway since I'm sure I could still get SD through it?

Call and complain; if you're paying for HD, you should get HD. Is there an alternateu location for the dish?

I just had Dish come out and move my dish - when they installed last fall, there were trees in the way, but without leaves, they didn't block much signal. Spring comes around and we're suddenly dropping reception all the time. They initially said they'd have to charge me for the visit, but when the tech got on site, I pushed and he assessed that the situation was NOT my fault; moved (and upgraded) the dish for free.

I went from U-Verse to Dish about 6 months ago, and it's been by far the worst service I have ever had... and I used to say that about Comcast. It has been nothing but problems from the crap equipment to their billing. I will never, ever do business with them again. I would suggest you do the same, since they are unable to offer you a service that you signed up for (regardless if you are paying for HD or not). You signed up for HD, you should be recieving HD.

Good luck man.

Between Dish Network and DirectTV I can't decide whats worse, knowing that you are getting fucked for two years, or actually signeing up to get anally raped by one of these companies. Get cable, you can bundle with high speed internet and still get better reception without a contract. Part of the reason I believe satellite suck is the fact that you buy a two year contract, thats guaranteed money regardless of the value of the service, their contracts are written in a way to insure they always make their bid. Cable is based on value of service, if the service sucks they will take care of you or they lose your business. They want your business so they will make concessions. Dish says, we are already guaranteed your money why should we care what you want, we will get our money out of you regardless of what you want. Cancel you service, and we get a cancellation fee.

If Directv comes to your house and can't get LOS to the satellite, they rip up your contract and you part ways. Since you wanted HD and you cannot have HD, I would demand to be let out of the Dish contract and go with cable.

They also told me I would get abc, cbs, fox and nbc but I was just browsing the channels and didn't see them.

That's very odd, they are working here fine so might be something really odd on your end.

Actually it seems here Direct TV is the one that gets a very bad review while dish is the better of the two.

Could just be your local company that has issues but judging by this site and majority of other online reviews most prefer dish compared to direct tv, unless you are heavy into sports.

I offer a balanced view to both DISH and DirecTv.

I've had both in the past 4 years and I have been happy with both. To me, it came down to the promo at the time. Oftentimes, I called to get free premium channels or discounts during my first two years with them.

The DVR is better with DISH but both company's DVRs are on another level compared to Comcrap or ATT Uverse.

Im not paying for HD since I do paperless billing

Whhhaaaa? I fail to see the connection.

BTW, how about calling them and talking to them? I personally have DTV and never have had a problem there, and i am sure Dish will work with you. I know there are clauses in the contract you sign that say blah blah not valid if service can not be provided.

I've had Dish for about 5 years now, and they've been awesome. I think service quality just depends on your part of the country and your line of site to the horizon.

Cable is a lot more expensive, at least in my experience. The move to DirecTV was a no-brainer for me a few years ago. At the time, in addition to saving me $20/month for essentially the same type of package of channels, I also gained a ton of HD channels. DirecTV had dozens of HD channels while my cable provider had 8 or so.

The only time my satellite goes out is during a really heavy rain, at which point I can just switch over to OTA.

I'm assuming that to get HD, you have to point to a different sat which is blocked by your trees?

You usually have a grace period in which to concel the service contract--especially if you signed up for HD and they cannot deliver it.

Of course, asking here is always better than asking DISH.

I've had directtv, dish, comcast, and uverse. Dish was by far the worst in my experience.

Currently we use uverse, but we dropped the tv portion and live off hulu/itunes/amazon/netflix.

If you have an HD tv, why would only getting SD be acceptable in the least? If you can't get LOS, then you should have no contract with them.

Either have the dish moved or go with another provider.

As to the person who says the dish dvr is superior to directvs, that may have been the case a few years ago, but directv's hd dvrs kick the crap out of dish's these days. The HR-24 is probably the best DVR that doesn't have the name Tivo on it.

Dish Network in my opinion has the worst possible customer service. Cancel while you are in your grace period, trust me on this one.

The problem is as it's said is they are more or less near the same and depend more on your local company.

Most seem to prefer dish as it's cheaper and much better reviews are out there, especially for customer service but direct tv has the sports that some people prefer.

My experiences couldn't be more different.

I've been with DirecTV for over a decade, and have never had a contract with them. And when I listened to the Comcast salesman a couple of weeks ago, the package he presented me required me to sign a contract. Oh, and they were $20 more per month than the price that I currently pay for satellite (w/DirecTV) and internet (Verizon FiOS.) Not to mention that the price he presented me with was only for the "introductory period" of six months. It would go up after that. No thanks!

DirecTV has been the best TV service I've ever had, and I can say the same for Verizon FiOS for internet.

That seems a bit odd, when my parents used them awhile ago, over 10 years at least, they had a contract.

Are you sure that when you renew your subscription you are not also agreeing to the contract as more then likely you are doing that?

I called and they told me I wasn't getting them because they are not available, two different people on the sales line told me I would get them. I canceled with no etf, but then this morning my wife says she doesn't care about abc, cbs, nbc, and fox so ugh. I can either call and have them restart service or choose direct. Suddenlink is my local cable and their comparable price is 60+ a month

I switched from Cable to Dish, I was told they would bring a tripod for the dish, since the landlord was on vacation, they were supposed to bring a dual DVR, and two HD receivers. Installation of the two upper rooms was supposed to be free. I specifically asked if running wires to the upstairs rooms was included. They told me HBO and Showtime were free for 12 months.

When the installer came he had none of the equiptment I odered, he had a single DVR and two SD recievers. After calling another truck he was able to get the HD reciever but not the dual DVR, he said we could swap that for a dual later. He did not bring a tripod, we had to call the landlord, who we couldnt get a hold of. Finnaly he started on the install without consent. Turns out the Dish he put up only has three lines, so throughout the 17 horrible months with them I never did get the equipment I ordered. They charged me $135.00 per upstairs room for install.

After they refused to add the dual DVR, I asked that one of the recievers be moved from one room to another, since that room was supposed to have service from the second DVR feed. They came out and switched it, while that installer was there he noticed a ground wire was not hooked up, the first installer drilled a one inch hole into our siding and stuck the end of the wire in there with some tacky glue, the second installer fixed this.

Fast forward to when I get my bill, I see 135 X2 for the upstairs rooms, 100 dollars for the second installer coming out, 15 for changing rooms, and 50 for fixing the ground wire. After spending over four hours on the phone that day, writing down rep #s for 16 CS reps that were BLATENTLY rude to me, saying things like "You do know what a contract is right sir?" "We have a low tolorence for cheap customers trying to pull things over on us" "Do you know how to read sir? I got nowhere, I found the corporate number and started a new phone quest the next day, I was able to get about half the fees waived.

The next monday I got my lawyer involved, he wasnt getting a resolution either. Finally I called the corporate office and tried to use company clout(at the time I worked for a large newspaper). I starting this call with "Hi, my name is FDF12389 and I'm a employee of {Newspaper}, my Employee ID is XXXX, and my department number is XXXX. I am recording this conversation and any or all dialog may be referenced in a publication." I was transfered so someone else who was very articulate, much more so than anyone I had talked to, I explained the situation calmly from the begining and he gave my account full credit.

Fast forward three months, remember free Showtime and HBO for a year, well it was only for three months. Called Corporate CS, after hours on the phone all I got was "The original rep may have lied to me, however it is my job to verify the contract".

I never did get the free HD service they advertise, I did not have HBO or showtime, and I did not have the dual DVR. My cancellation fee was about 300 dollars, but it did go down after each month of service.

Google "Dish network customer support." Also research why Dish network has been fined millions for shady contracts and misleading customers.

I did google dish customer service and it came up with them having been awarded a bunch of stuff for having the best service and your issues seems a issue in your area / local company.

I have used both and prefew dish to direct tv and many here seem to share that feeling but they are so close it just comes down to your area for the most part.

Also direct tv has had a lot more legal issues I have seen then dish, to the point where the Attorney General's Office has gone after them.
