All my q3 engine games stutter and I still play sof2 online all the time so this thing is basically worthless to me. Sure, it's fast and very pretty but if you can't play your games, especially after shelling out this much cash, it's damn frustrating. I listened to everyone say that ATI has fixed their driver issues and wonder what they're smoking.
sounds like you didn't get your nvidia drivers cleared out. you might try driver cleaner.

Good point there,
But despite what alot of people say, neither doom3 or HL2 are DX9 games, they are actually just DX8 games. neither of them use any of the new features of DX9.

You have a link to that because it doesn't make sense to do that. I don't know...maybe I heard wrong about them. The impression I got was that most new games comming out like DX2, TR:AOD, DIII, and HL2, were all gona be DX9 capable.

How about waiting for 1-2months for the games to come out before making a decision?

Personally, I prefer to wait for all the hypes/dust to clear before making a purchase. Right now, even before the games you wanna play is out. Nothing is for certain, furthermore, the cards that you mentioned at least for 5900 has just been announced.
Bottomline is that the performance between the two highest end Graphic card is very close. And I always go for the cheaper card. In this case I predict that the ATI's offering would probably be cheaper.

And remember that with the saving you have on this round of upgrade, you could put it towards future upgrades, when some truly uber Card is out.

Wait it out, is what I reccomend.

What you, and many others probably read was, that they support DX9.
If you read what direct3d features either one uses, you`ll probably find there just basic DX8 games.
For example, UT2003 is supposidly a DX8 game, but in actual fact, is a DX7 game with high res textures.
By the time we see "true" DX9 games, we`ll probably be using cards like R500s/nV50 or something higher.
At the moment, 80% of games that are out, dont even use a quarter of the DX8 features that are listed in the DX8 feature list.
For a start, Doom3 can`t be classed as a DX game anyway, its baced on OpenGL. The only parts of DX that doom uses is the DirectInput/Sound.
