1. Go to Lowes and buy: 3 2x6's, nails, couple bags of concrete.
2. Build a form out of the 3 2x6's that looks like this |_|
3. Mix up concrete and pour into the form
4. Let dry.
5. Put new homemade "speed bumps" in the road.
6. Grab cup of coffee and donut, sit on porch.
7. Watch neighbor call the tow truck after he hits your speed bump.

It seems as though they think the residental street (where kids often play) is a racetrack. Keep in mind that these are adults, yet very unprofessional and very immature. Everyday, they burn rubber going up and down our street to and from whereever they are going. They have a couple cars which they put some aftermarket parts on (exhaust) etc and now they think they can drive recklessely around the neighborhood. This has been going on for sometime now, but this morning it really hit a nerve. I was walking out to my car and next thing I hear is loud reving of an engine and then a car peeling out which was followed by a car going up our residential street fast as hell.

Am I just being a stickler or should I do something or call the police? They have no consideration for others or for the neighborhood.

It would be one thing if it was some teenager who didnt know better, maybe their parents could talk some sense into them. But these are full gorwn adults. One guy who does cable, one stay at home mom, and one brother who works for a towing company.

I had to check you profile, for a second I thought you might live on a friend of mine's street in jersey.

It amazes me how fast people drive in my girlfriend's neighboorhood. I usually drive 25 to 30 in residential neighborhoods. People around her home drive 40 or 45.

Personally, I wouldn't want the burden of running over a child because I wanted to get to the grocery store 2 minutes faster on my plate.

yeah if you're on speaking terms with them and they're fairly friendly you could try talking to them. If not then the police would be the proper venue.

Tell them if they aren't interested in following speed limits or keeping the tread on their tires, you'll be happy to make sure the vehicle's maximum speed is: PUSH, PULL, OR TOW.

Hmm, they're actually not friendly neighbors at all. We dont tlak to them and they dont talk to us....actually, they dont talk to anyone.

Based on that, I think I might call the police and complain about the driving and peeling out. Speed traps are not a consideration because like I said before, it's a small residential street.

Another thing I was thinking about is that there are always joggers, and walkers, including my mother going up and down this street all the time.

Im still not sure if I should bother confronting them first. Im thinking they would probably get offensive considering the way they act in the neighborhood and considering the fact that they do this soo often.

Well the mature thing would be to go and talk to your neighbor face to face. If they are assholes about it then I would contact the police if I really felt like they were violating noise or safety laws.

Definitely call the cops and report that they are speeding, driving reckless, using excessive speed, and doing all this in a residential street with kids out playing all the time. Then setup a webcam or something with motion detection and let it run. Once you get some footage of them on tape, take it to the police station and show it to them.

Thats funny, they're pretty much the trash of the neighborhood. But I could care less that they hang a huge nascar flag outside of their house (which they do.) I don't care what they do for a living or anything about their lives personally, but this reckless driving up and down our street has got to stop.

EDIT: I just realized you were referring to that funny story posted here a while ago.......that was good.

I had the wrong impression of them anyway. I didn't picture them as being Nascar people. The cops in my city will set up speed traps if they get enough complaints from the public about speeding.

Video evidence should help too. If you can get them burning out while someone is standing on the sidewalk, then you could probably get them on Attempted Vehicular Manslaughter.

A more direct approach would be to punch holes in their gas tanks, and burn their cars down. If your lucky, the gasoline will drain towards the house, and take it out too.

Roofing nails in front of their driveway... You could always hot glue them point-up wherever the tire marks are.

If you like any of your other neighbors, then get them to complain to the cops too. Shouldn't take more than three of you complaining separatly to get some action.

Or you could just go talk to them, and ask them to knock that sh** off (Get the video evidence first and blackmail them with it if they turn out to be pricks and don't stop).

Spend an afternoon one weekend putting up speed bumps.

I have the solution.

You must get together with a few other of your neighbors that are concerned like yourself and go talk to them when you know they are home. Make sure you do not talk to them yourself or you will likely be ignored or worse. If a handful of concerned parents comming to them and talking to them at the same time has no effect on their behavior then you notify the police of the situation (everyone that participated in the talk so the police take the situation seriously as well).

Likely nothing legal will stop the activity if that doesnt. I am sure that will solve it.
Not many people are willing to piss off all the people around them where they live for something so easily tempered.

I have a similiar issue in my neighborhood, except it is with 4-wheelers. Every day they ride them around up and down the roads really fast, doing wheelies and such.

I am considering calling the police, I would suggest you try this too.

Video tape them doing it repeatedly on different days with the help of your neighbors.

Call the police.

Profit.

Since they seem to be DaimlerChrysler fans I would have to say yes, call the cops on them. That and they picked crappy vehicles to mod.

My parents had the same thing w/ 4-wheelers being driven in their neighborhood. They talked to the police and it was stopped quickly. They tried to talk to the parents first but it didn't work.

Krunchy, I'm following to find out how you deal with this since it's similar to my neighborhood. Only difference is that mine is a kinda cut-thru for people avoiding the main roads. Would be interested to find out what the police say. Neighbors have even thought about petitioning the local gov't for speed humps on our street.
