Maybe an item that costs 150 after a 50 dollar rebate would then cost 175, I'm all for that.

nah man... it should still be $150 😀

That'd be cool, but part of the reason why they offer rebates is to get the price lower than they could normally, cause 50% of the people won't even bother to send the rebate in...
doh, gotta remember to send in two of em 🙂 thanks for the reminder

Is that what you blame your stupidity on?

And then there is the whole thing about the MAJORITY of the USA not smoking

ok, now we have the "true" story here folks

he wants to tear down the republic that the founding fathers established , where minority rights are PROTECTED by the constitution and replace it with an ultra liberal democracy where MOB rules and the majority has tyranny over the oppressed minorities

and this on the fourth of july!!!! oh the humanity!!! the young people of our country want to destroy all we have faught and worked to protect all these years 🙁

Yeah, uh huh. That is exactly what I was saying... Oh, but NOT REALLY. Thanks for putting all those words in my MOUTH. What I was trying to get at is if it was outlawed, there would be a better chance of people not smoking in public than preventing them from speeding for these reasons.

Geesh.

Thanks for the attack on my character.

Not sure where you got that difintion but mine is one where liberals assert the dignity of the individual and their rational ability to control their own destinies. Read some John Locke and Adam Smith. These are liberals, not these money gubbing, law making, masquaders we have today.

And "Everyone should be able to do whatever they what whenever they want" unless if affects others directly.. Big differance.

I already told you where I got it! dictionary.com.
So breathing in cancerous toxens that was put in your face willingly is an undirect approach?

I don't think people that smoke realize how many people they anger by smoking around them in a public place.

Sorry, I didnt know I was debating a 12 year old. I'll stop now.

I'll take this personally... Since I am 20. Again, another personal attack. I take it these are all smokers who are arguing against me.

When was the last time you were just standing on the street and a smoker came up right beside you and starting smoking? Have you considered in such a situation politely asking them to be considerate? Sounds like you are proposing banning smoking in public. that may fly in finland but not here.

Oh... This happens about... Once a week.

Nothing since the government no longer seems to care for its citizens' best interests. And anything they implement will be half-assed so they'll look like heroes down the road when they "fix" things once again for us.

Lots of 'smoking' threads lately...

Who here disagrees that it would be a good thing if nobody smoked?

Again, how in the world can you possibly say you have the right to not be polluted by tobacco, but dont have the right not to be polluted by automobiles simply because you feel they are a neccesity?

Because cars are necessity, tobacco is not. It's a habit, a hobby, an addiction.

Cars aren't a necessity. We did survive a few thousands years without combustable engines didn't we?

Maybe back then... But today? Try living around a rural community, if you want to go anywhere outside of the town, you gotta use a car. There are no busses, no subways, no other forms of transportation. Our society has changed from 10,000 years ago.

For modern society they are. Telecommunications (telephones, internet etc.) are not really necessary, but would modern society survive without them? Same goes for satellites, antibiotics... None of them aren't REALLY necessary, but they are integral part of modern-day living that removing them would change society in dramatic way.

Why don't all you anti-smoke people do something about it? I do it at every opportunity. Every restaurant that has a smoking section gets my personal attention. I complain LOUDLY to the management about the smoke, the smell, the poisonous fumes, etc. Eventually all restaurants will be smoke-free.

You've all heard "The squeeking wheel gets the grease"? Anti-smoking laws will win. It's just a matter of time.

Till then you smokers go for it. Smoke yourself to death. Just don't make me pay for that tube shoved down your nose as you're lying there coughing up blood, dying.

Heh...Here's what to do in that smelly restaurant...As you're about to pay your bill, the person usually asks if everything was ok. Say the food was fine, and you'd come here more frequently except for the awful smoke. Then rant on about the dangers of second-hand smoke. Get loud. One place offered me a refund on the meal...I refused. I think they felt even worse.

You people keep comparing things like B.O. and coffee smell to smoke. It's TOXIC it's POISON!!!!! there's a huge difference! We're talking about environmental pollution which is hazardous to health not just annoying like coffee smell. You keep bringing up car emissions. I don't know how the reasonable people here can make this any simpler. There are limitations on car emissions and checkups mandated by law (at least here) Smoking in a closed room is exposing people to the things listed at the bottom of this page. It's assault. An attack on an individual's health. Might as well be slipping rat poison into my drink.

"Second-hand smoke has up to 4,000 chemicals in it. More than 50 of them are known to cause cancer in humans.

Three cancer-causing chemicals found in second-hand smoke are so dangerous that the North American air quality rules, used by most governments, say no one should ever be exposed to them.

Sidestream smoke, from the burning end of the cigarette, has more tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide and other chemicals that cause cancer than the smoke inhaled from filtered cigarettes by the smoker. When a cigarette burns, about 85% of the smoke that goes into the air is sidestream smoke. "

Well said.
Sad truth is you may have to pay for it though. We fund medicare in taxes... And if the dying smoker qualifies for medicare...

oh and here's what it does to my children:

"Second-hand smoke has serious effects on children's health

Children of parents who smoke:

cough and wheeze more
have more ear infections
go to the hospital more often with bronchitis and pneumonia
have reduced lung function.
Children with asthma have more asthma attacks due to second-hand smoke. Their asthma attacks also tend to be more severe.

Children whose parents smoke 10 or more cigarettes a day have a greater chance of becoming asthmatic. A link has been shown between a mother's smoking and an infant's risk of dying from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. "

We have done something about it in My Nation's Capaital where I live. Smoking in public places is illegal here! Someday maybe you can have it too! All of the arguments about smokers not going out and restaurants folding and what not are bull. None of that happened. It's working out very well.
If the entire population of your nation was adicted to cocain, wouldn't the government come in and HELP the addicts. Same thing with smoking. You are addicts and need help. You're killing yourself with drugs.

I really think they are grasping at straws myself here too. Everyone knows smoking is bad, people disagree about outlawing it, but everyone knows it is bad, and if they don't, they should read they side of their box of cigarettes.

None of these people that have been arguing against smoking being outlawed have had one counter-arguement about children that have parents that smoke. They are around the smoke all the time.

Someone said something about the parent for being stupid for smoking around the kids, but they are addicted, its a tough habbit to break. And using their OWN arguements the parent is doing nothing wrong, the little baby could just crawl away I guess. And even if they didn't smoke around the kid, the house will still stink of smoke and those chemicals just don't go away.

I really think that smokers do not know how much the annoy the rest of the public.

Edit: Granted, not ALL smokers annoy the public. The statement above was not intended to mean ALL smokers. There are some people that smoke that do not in public places and kindly extingush their light when someone asks them to etc etc. Its just the few that ruin it for all.

This thread makes me sick. All of you liberty grabbing motherfvckers should go rollover and die.

When they started the USA, It was based on FREEDOM. If you outlaw everything that annoys everyone, well guess what: They're isn't going to be any freedom left.

Are you guys blind or just fvcking stupid?

And the argument of second hand smoke BS is useless. Do you know ANYONE, EVER that died from second hand smoke? (especially the miniscule amount you get walking on the street).

So the only argument you'e got, is "it smells bad". so does perfume and cars, etc. get a fvcking life:disgust:
