some issues to consider:

should legislators lift the maximum iq qualification? should legislators raise the minimum iq required to be a cop?

should they make cops more liable personally? should legislators cut the departments more whenever an innocent bystander is harmed by the cops? should pds be less hierarchical? should cops be disallowed to shoot people anywhere other than the limbs if the cops are the only ones in danger? should cops have access to less technology? should a lot of pd gear including, but not limited to weapons be sold off so taxes can be lowered? should more groups come up with police awareness programs and advertising?

lastly, do you think private defense companies should be more prominent?

I can see how they can go crazy. Endless supply of drug dealers and drugs. More money to steal from each bust, than they can ever make legally. Ho's for days, building up desire. I can imagine that this is a bad world to live in day after day and most human minds will eventually succumb to corruption, if immersed in it for long enough. Eventually a Cop, even a good one, will find that deep end......the cliff, if you will.

The single best thing that could be done is shutdown and disband the Department of Homeland Security followed by the demilitarization of civilian police forces. Next would be to close down Federal Agencies individual police forces and return to the Federal police role being covered by the US Marshall service and the FBI.

First we as a nation need to become outraged. When the people of this country allow this to happen.

We have a long ways to go in stopping police brutality. We have been programmed to believe cops are above the law and should be given slack an avg citizen would never get.

How many times have you read about a cop running through a stop sign and hitting somebody? Only to get a slap on the wrist? Why?

i forgot about that. one time one of my cousin's grandmothers got fucked up by a cop who was on a chase. half the bones in her body were broken. cops should not be allowed to go on high speed chases.

None of which excuses an attitude of us vs them or using SWAT teams and military gear to serve warrants and make arrests. There are a lot of thankless occupations that people enter into knowing that they will deal with things the average citizen does not deal with but that is no excuse for unprofessional or illegal behavior.

At what speed does it become high?

That is why police departments carry liability insurance.

Police mess up, sue them, get a nice payment and go on about your life.

And when they shoot people, then file a false report like those two cops in Dallas?

Why so negative?

Do yall always look for the worst?

You realize this thread is about what to do about police brutality? Which is the worst the police have to offer.

What do you say about when cops shoot people and falsify reports? What should happen to them?

I think I have read more than 10 dozen times that often times when a corrupt cop gets caught or reprimanded such as fired, that their union arbitrator gets involved and gets the cops job back. We could do away with the arbitration that is mandatory by Police Union contract on such matters and allow a real court and real judge to handle such matters. I also think that more of these horrific corrupt cop abuses need to be held accountable in the same way everyone else is and that should be real jail/prison time. Stop giving cops like this paid leave during an investigation. That is another good way to dissuade a lot of the behavior.

They should not leave an investigation up to their own departments, that is a conflict of interest, especially if you have a police chief who doesn't want his department to look bad. Have an independent outside investigation that is comprised of people who have no interest in police or the local department.

Camera's need to be on every cop, on their body, and fully functioning with audio on their dash cams. If the cops tamper with these devices that should be jail time for doing that.

Yea, the baby whose face a SWAT team blew up with a smoke bomb apparently they were going after a casual drug user in the house. Not that he was a drug dealer but that they believed he might have some personal pot on him. In addition, they didn't do their due diligence on making sure they knew who all lived in that house. The excuse that they didn't know their was a baby inside just doesn't cut it in my opinion, especially when their could potentially be children inside and they are using these heavy handed military tactics.

The family that was wrongly targeted because the local PD didn't know that their suspect had moved away years later, and the house had been sold, did a SWAT tactic on them, and they have been spending years with their little children in counseling who are now suffering from severe PTSD. That is a life long mental condition that will never go away. One that they created because they didn't take the time to find out that they house had been sold and that someone else happened to live there.

Cameras need to be on everybody.

Society is making great strides towards that end.
