Ive been reading Adrian's Undead Diary. you'll have to google for the link. This guy posts a fictionalized blog about surviving a zombie apocalypse and I got attached to the characters. I started two weeks ago and caught up to real time and now cant wait for new posts.

I like reading it better than watching Walking Dead.

That's cool. I'll find it. 😀

I'd bring the beer, and also my 357 magnum. That way, I could find the guy who has all the survival stuff in his kit, and team up, and trade beer for food.

plus:
M1 Garand
.50 Caliber
Shotguns
Crossbows and the Bow and Arrow
Machete

you NEED to have ranged weapons. If everything is close quarters/mele.. you're already dead.

Leather (jacket, pants, gloves). That way, if you are surprised by one, it can't get a quick bite. It would be extremely difficult for a zombie to bite through leather clothing.

Also, a Kindle with solar charger. You want the Kindle completely stocked with books for recreational reading as well as reference material in case you need to know how to build, make or repair something.

Both very good points. I was thinking leather

An assload of ammo and explosives/combustibles.

Pisses me off that the 'Dawn of the Dead' store guy didn't just go on a shooting spree every day and empty out his store before going down.

I'm not swapping my food for beer. :colbert:

You are going to be very thirsty after carrying 500 pounds of stuff and not bringing any water with you.

Beer is better than food anyhow, it has calories so you don't starve to death, and it has alcohol in it to keep the water in it fresh and safe to drink. Also, it works as a painkiller in large doses.

Beer is essentially going to be my first aid kit.

wooden stakes and silver weapons, because if the zombies are here the vampires can't be far behind.

Rifle: Semiautomatic rifle (preferably an AR or AK variant). For a zombie apocalypse, I like 5.56x45 or 7.62x39 because they are pretty common in the US in case you run out. I'd prefer 5.56x45 because it's a lot lighter and in FMJ it's more deadly than 7.62x39. .22 or a larger caliber like .308 is acceptable also, but I like the intermediate cartridges for zeds. IMO buckshot is too heavy per round for a zombie apocalypse.

Sidearm: A backup weapon is always good. Since it's your backup, it should be light. I'd go with a Glock or S&W M&P in 9mm.

Knife: I'd want a good fixed blade knife like an ESEE-4 for a zombie apocalpyse. Let's ditch any unrealistic fantasies about fighting zombies with a melee weapon - if they are that close, you're dead anyway, so you might as well have a knife that is actually useful for utility tasks rather than a ManSlayer9000. A robust folding knife would work also, but is not ideal.

Light: In case you get attacked at night, you'll need light. I like Surefire lights. The only downside to these is that they use CR123 batteries which aren't particularly common, but they will do 50+ hours on one pair of batteries. So you should be good for a few years if you have 20 or so batteries.

With no guns, you'd better include something like a cyanide capsule.

Of course, since zombies don't really exist, you could just take the cyanide to put us out of your misery...

,... kit? All this shit would have to fit in a room or shed. This is NOT a kit.

Also, no guns? Fine, crossbow will do just fine - a la Daryl Dixon.

🙂
