I just installed CS and it runs SO SLOW.
I have it on 800x600 using OpenGL and tried D3D on default settings.
on the ATI control panel i even set the slider one mroe notch towards Performance.

It runs like Arse. Maybe it's just my connection.

How can I check?

Please help. (i know the video card aint all that but I can run CS better on a MUCH slower system then mine)

The 8500 is overkill for CS, CS = QUake II engine. My buddy has a slower Radeon 9000 64mb running 1028x768 at high res with no FSAA/AA, I would give that a try.

you're kidding right?

Radeon 8500AIW for Counter-Strike?
Incredible overkill -- consider that this is a game that runs smooth as silk on a geforce 2.

I'd say it's either connection or really bad drivers.

There are problems with D3D in that game, everyone that I know of uses OpenGL. I have an AIW 8500DV... it runs great for me at 1024x768 with Smoothvision on 2x Quality

Use OpenGl,also in console of CS type " ati_npatch 0" without the speechmarks ,this will disable(turn off) trueform.

Does Truform have a big performance hit? I'm not sure how much quality increase there is in CS but the specs look good on it. I read somewhere that it's CPU dependant....

I'm on a duallie 'Xeon 3.06" with a gig of Ram using latest catalyst drivers using a Sony 21" WANTIG SO BADLY to play above 1024 x 768 settings... :( :(

I can't believe how crappy it is. I had MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better quality AND performance using a 333 celeron with GeForce2Ultra and 256 ram with 5400rpm hard disk.

BTW, same location (my house) on broadband cable. But different days. Both PC's ran SAME copy of CS with same exact updates.

My connection seems fine and the speed on the servers that I played on was at least 6 bars with about 14 players.

Also, when I move my mouse, everything seems to lag behind like its catching up or something.

How would i properly narrow down this problem?

i just hope it's my internet connection.

You would certainly hope so - considering my old GF2MX card would run 99fps at max resolution in CS!

There were issues with ATI cards and HL/CS games back in the dark corners of my memory though.
