Hello, my router has been acting crazily over the past few days and I think it is because I changed my settings. It is a linksys gateway WCG200. My first question is should I have the firewall enabled if I have norton internet security? It has been freezing a lot lately and I think it because the firewall is having problems (it freezes when I only go to particular sites). Does anyone know the default settings?
Firewall Protection Enable Disable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Filter Proxy Enable Disable
Filter Cookies Enable Disable
Filter Java Applets Enable Disable
Filter ActiveX Enable Disable
Filter Popup Windows Enable Disable
Filter Multicast Enable Disable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do now know which to enable/disable. Thanks

it's kind of hard to disable the linksys firewall 100%....when using a router that has a firewall...its good to use only viruscan on clients....don't use the entire suites on the individual computers...the linksys firewall is hardware based which makes it fast and it takes the software firewall load off of the computers (which is sllllooooooowwww)....

It is hard to understand what exactly you are doing.

The Router has to be set on its own.

In addition it is recommended to use software Firewall and Anti Virus program on each computer.

Norton Internet Security is a Combo Firewall Anti Virus Program and can be used with the Router.

If you have additional Firewall AntiVirus program they should be disabled.

As for the setting that you are talking about you should try to understand what each one of them does it is a personal decision how to set them, and might depend on your specific system.
System

In my system this is my preference:

Filter Proxy - Disable
Filter Cookies - Enable
Filter Java Applets - Enable
Filter ActiveX - Enable
Filter Popup ? Disable popups
Filter Multicast - Enable Multicast
