What "sections" do you have on your resume?

I thought I would start updating my resume today since I've seen a couple of available jobs recently that have piqued my interest. The last time I had a proper resume I was a wide-eyed college graduate with no work experience, so I basically need to do a complete overhaul.

So what "sections" do you (who aren't recent college graduates) have on your resume? Right now I have "Experience", "Education", and...that's it. What do hiring managers want to see? I'm especially interested in people who have IT-related careers.

If I was to rewrite it, I would maybe condense that a bit. It's a total of 2 pages though, which is about what you should aim for. 1 page is not enough, 3 pages it too long.

One page is enough if you are starting out. I don't know any employer who cares about your hobbies. Volunteer work may be questionable as well, depending upon the position you are applying for. A needlessly padded resume isn't likely to impress anyone.

It depends on the field. My girlfriend is applying for nursing jobs and she has been requested to include hobbies and volunteer work on her resume by multiple hospitals.

The above takes up an entire page. I have been working for 10 years and have 7 jobs listed (including summer internships etc).

My next big debate is whether I drop the early jobs/internships, or go to 2 pgs.

I *might* be able to understand adding volunteer work, but don't know how one's hobbies might be important.

objective (or summary): this basically gives one long sentence explaining your primary skills and what you're looking for.

skills: this is where i list all the stuff the recruiters/hiring managers are searching for keywords on.

work experience: list all your jobs from most recent backward in time to least recent

education: duh

references: available upon request

For me, it's my personal info up top, work experience next, and then education - but I'm a lawyer, and thus have no "skills" that would be worthwhile to list. Personally, I find "Objective" to be the single biggest waste of space on a resume - I know what your objective is - you want a job. Unless you really have nothing else to fill up that blank space, I would never have an Objective section.

That's what I was thinking. I've never out an "Objective" on my resume. But then again, I've only had one job since college, and I think they might have hired a monkey to do it.
