I believe this is the seventh season for XF; Duchovny is contracted to appear straight through to the end of this season and has said he'd do another X-Files movie, which as of yet, is up in the air. When the contracts were signed for this year, everyone was planning on this being the last year for the show, so they were going to start filming the movie at the end of filming the series. Now that Robert Patrick is working so well as Doggett, everything's sort of been put on hold until Chris Carter decides if he wants to do another year.
Gillian Anderson is contracted to do an eighth season of X-Files if Fox picks it up again (she wanted a huge increase in pay and Fox would only agree to it if she signed a two-year contract rather than the one year she wanted) and if Chris Carter agrees to do another year. Carter has said he'd offer Robert Patrick a contract if he decides to do season 8 and has hinted that he'll also sign Annabeth Gish for a recurring role. Duchovny initally said he'd never do another season past this one, but has since said that he would be willing to do a few cameos/guest appearances on one more season of XF, but he flat out won't be back full-time.
