What scifi/fantasy books have you read recently?

So what have you read recently that was notable?

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Steven Erickon's "Garden of the Moon". I've heard some people compare his writing to George R. R. Martin, I think I may order a copy this weekend.

Last one I finished what the long Enders game series (6 or 7)... first one was the best - steadily downward from there (but I still finished them).

Jack McDevitt.

He's pretty good, plots tend to have human/alien encounter elements but without the hackneyed violence that comes with that subgenre.

I'm readin Sarah Douglas' series starting with The Wayfarer Redemption. Its very creative, I've only just started the second book, but so far its been like 10/10.

Before that I read Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materia" trilogy, thats pretty good, but only about a 7/10.

Still waiting for Feast For Crows....

Megatomic- get around to reading that 4th book, seriously. I was getting very annoyed at how long the series was getting, and was really kind of bored and frustrated with it going into the fourth book. But the second half of the fourth book answers ALL your questions, makes it all come together and make sense, and generally has a really good conclusion that makes the series worth reading.

You mean "His Dark Materials." Been playing Final Fantasy VII lately? 😉

Currently re-reading Robert Asprin's Myth series, which are a blend of fantasy and comedy.

Been reading Lord Foul's Bane (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, Book 1) for practically the past 4 months. I just can't force myself to sit down and finish it.

Finishing up a book by Tad Williams. Forget the name.
I usually go through a book every 2 weeks or so, and for the life of me am drawing a blank on the recent authors.

I don't think I could put that one down...

I'm having issues with Picture of Dorian Grey at the moment. 😱

Plenty of Comic books fall into those categories though. 😎

From what I've read so far (100 pages or so) it's a good book, it's just for some reason, I cannot sit down with it. I have no idea why. Hell I may try to go finish it now, I'm done with classes for the day.

I understand. But I remember I was around 13 and couldn't put the book down. I got in trouble in class a couple of times for reasing it, and was always tired because I had to stay up to read just one more chapter. 😛

On someone's recommendation from an similar older thread, I started reading the original Uplift Series, by David Brin. Finished Sundiver and Startide Rising and am halfway through Uplift War. Really great series so far.

Haha I was like that with The Song of Ice and Fire series.

I have the other 2 books in the first Thomas Covenant series waiting for me when I'm done. I've heard nothing but good things about the books, so maybe I'll try to finish them up within the next 2 weeks.
