What Scanner to buy?

Looking to buy a scanner... the type that lets you listen to police, fire, avation, etc...

You need to do some more research for your area. Some places have gone all digital while others are a mix of digital and analog. You also need to consider trunking, tracking, what frequency range you need, how many channels of memory you want and if you want a portable or desktop model. Some good scanner brands include AOR, Yupiteru, Icom, Uniden, Alinco and Yaesu.

I work in radio tech and for the average person looking to get something simple for local police and fire listening, I recommend a Bearcat or Motorola brand scanner.
Just look for one that listens to emergency frequencies.
You will have to decide on a portable, desktop or auto scanner. Although many have adapters that will let you do two different things.
