I realize that most everyone in this forum had gaming/3D as their main criteria when selecting their video card and monitor. But I would really appreciate hearing from those of you who know what would make for a great 2D card and 19" monitor (for image-editing) without concern for its 3D performance...

Oh yea, I don't want to spend more than $700 for both, and its got to be Win 2K compatible!

I don't know about the monitor part, but for 2D Vid card you can't beat the quality of Matrox G400 or G450. Not the fastest cards in 3D games as they are CPU dependant, but outstanding 2D quality in all Win apps. Most knowledgable people will acknowledge that Matrox makes the best 2D image quality cards available.

For video card, the Matrox G400 or G450.

For the monitor, the Samsung 900NF is a great AG while the Hitachi CM775 and Samsung 955DF are great shadow mask monitors.

Hands down - the G450 rules in 2D! - the G400 was a great 2D card but now the G450 is king. I really like Matrox's DualHead feature (real nice for image-editing).

You might also want to look at NVIDIA's TwinView card (I've never seen one, but some 2D users are really raving about it).

Hands down Matrox rules in 2D. If your lucky, you can still find a G400Max DH out there.
