I'm going to Michigan next week. I'll be staying in Monroe which is south of Detroit. I'm looking for something fun to do.

I know there's a new ball park in Detroit, and I want to go to Ann Arbor. I've been to the new Cabela's in Dundee.

Any of you guys in Michigan have some suggestions?

Catch a Tigers game. Plenty of good seats.

Meh... nothing special in Monroe.
Go downtown and have a nice dinner at one of the restraunts by the Fox, or see a play for that matter! You may wanna check out Greenfield Village (which is now renamed The Henry Ford). It has been completely renovated. See what concerts are going on At Pine Knob(DTE Energy concert theatre). Walk through downtown AnnArbor.
Hmmm.... i have lived here my whole life and cant think of anything else to do!

Are there any casinos in Windsor? Somebody told me there's an Indian casino north of Detroit.

I've been in Detroit before, and I don't really feel like going downtown unless it's for a Tigers game.

Comedy Castle is always good fun, that's in Royal Oak though. Kinda on the other side of the Metro-Detroit area.

Actually, since I live on the other side, that's all I know. I don't know what's fun outside of my little 22 mile radius.

If I go over to Windsor, do I have to go through a hassle coming back into the US?

All the times i went back and forth, i have never had a big problem. In fact the only time i ever got stopped was because there were 5 teenagers in the car! Heck, most of the time, they didnt even ask for any ID or anything. Unless you look REALLY suspious or drunk, i dont think you'll have a big problem!

There are often long lines to get back to the U.S., especially on Sundays. One time I was stuck in a traffic jam in Windsor leading up to the bridge for 4 hours.

There's a nice mall (Great Lakes Crossing) in Auburn Hills. I usually stay away from Detroit when I'm in Michigan.

great lakes crossing isnt that spectacular. Lots of stores have closed up. Monroe isnt the prettiest area, most of that section of town is old industry.

If malls are your thing, check out the Summerset Collection instead of Great Lakes Crossing (GLC).

The beauty of summerset is it's on the 30 most likely targets of terrorism as far as malls go. I'm serious. I walked in there with a camera once to see if I could take any good portfolio shots and nearly got assaulted by security guards.

Summerset is also a "rich" mall, IE, it's EXTREMELY beautiful; palm trees, fountains, 3 stories, beautiful architecture. And as a result, most of the employees and goers are utter snobs.

Whenever I need a reality check, I dress in my rattiest clothes, and go there to sit in the lobby, drink coffee, and peoplewatch. And watch the people look at me in disgust. It's so much fun.

I really would highly suggest it. ;-)

Hit up a mongolian BBQ if you've not been there before. Take someone who has if you can.

Monroe isn't all that far from Toledo. The new Mud Hens Stadium is not all that far from 75 and it's a beautiful stadium. There's some good bars downtown near 5/3rd field too (hit up Mutts or The Durty Burd).

That's about all Toledo has to offer though. The art museum is really nice if you're into that sort of thing (and it's FREE, like $4 for parking).

Ann Arbor is fun if you know some people there.

Oh yeah, forgot about art. The Detroit Institute of the Arts is a damn fine museum, highly underrated.

There are plenty of private galleries too. If you like coffee, it's fun hanging out in Royal Oak and sitting in one of the sidewalk cafe's and watching the sheer diversity of the people that are out at 11:00 PM just walking around some overrated city. Freaks, geeks, punks, sXe's, rastafarians, Republicans......

Scary.

There are 3 casinos in Detroit, 1 in Windsor. Also try to hit Second City or Hockeytown Cafe. Also check out Royal Oak on any night as that is a sweet town to walk around in.

Somerset is a fantastic mall as I eat lunch there almost every day. The only mall I've ever been to where the women walking around were hotter than the models in store ads.

Otherwise check out Comerica or Ford field. They are right next to each other. Another thing is Ford has a huge 100th anniversary party going on all weekend. Tons of stuff to do at their HQ in Dearborn.

Oh god, Mongolian Barbeque freaking rocks. All you can eat self made stir fry!

Mackinac Island is very beautiful. I highly suggest you tour the rest of the island, however. Dont just stick around the southern part. What hotel are you staying at Ornery? We go up there every year. May i suggest the Lighthouse Restaurant in Mackinaw City. $30 for all you can eat crab that is partially cracked for you. Its sooooo good.:D

We're staying at Ramada Limited Waterfront. because it's close to the ferries. I'm trying to find out what you do with your car if you stay on the island. I can always cancel the current reservation if staying on the island is the way to go.

BTW, I HATE shell fish! I will be in search of deals for tickets and packages, though. I'd prefer to eat in nice, uncrowded restaurants if possible. Not too concerned if it costs a bit more. This will be our first real vacation in years, so we're going to make the best of it.

Ramada is right in between Arnold and Starline, right? You can leave your car at the hotel and walk. Be ready for the sun to stay out until 10pm on Mackinac Island. You are way up north.

For lunch, check out the small outdoor restaurant in Fort Mackinac. It's catered by the Grand Hotel, is very reasonable, and overlooks the water. Mackinac is really a beautiful place, just skip the touristy area unless you love to see people. If you walk about 1-2 miles east of the main strip of the main street(cant remember the name) you will find some very nice scenery. There is a good sized mountain that has some very good photo ops. I should pull out my pictures from last year.
