Even the recommended requirements are quite high and still won't be able to get you to pump out high resolutions with everything maxed. This is going to be one heavy duty game.

Depending on whether I save money or not, likely the computer in my sig, possibly with a Q6600 dropped in by september if the prices have come down again, possibly with a DX10 card if they've got good price/performance by then. An 8800GTX is great and all but we don't all have £400 to drop on a graphics card alone. That could buy me a decent PC.

It will run, yes. Will it run at max settings on max resolution? Of course not. It all depends what resolution you plan to run the game up and how far you want everything cranked but with the system you have there you should be able to squeeze some nice visuals out of it at a pretty good resolution. Time will tell I suppose. Still many months to go yet.

Porsche, seriously, what kind of performance do you get out of that rig? I'm not mocking you at all, I'm really curious. How old are the games you run, with how much eye candy, and does it ever get choppy?

Very kind of you to be interested in my humble rig! I'm surprised how it's held up given I built it two years ago. If I hadn't given away my vanilla 6800 I'd still happily run that, though the 7600 GT is noticeably faster (got it this week, my $20 AU Geforce 2 MX was *killing* me).

I'm a racing nut, so I have a Logitech G25, and with it I mainly play Need for Speed Porsche 2000, GT Legends, GTR and Rally Trophy (and soon NFS Most Wanted, Grand Prix 4, GTR 2, Richard Burns Rally and if I can find it, Grand Prix Legends). I care more about frame rate than resolution and jaggies don't really fuss me, so I only run AA + AF on old games when I can max everything else out and have it super smooth.

I run GTR maxed out at 1280 x 1024, NFS Porsche maxed out + AA & AF at 1280 x 1024, GT Legends maxed out at 1024 x 768 and Rally Trophy maxed out + AA & AF at 1280 x 1024 very smoothly. Haven't tried GTL or GTR with AA or AF.

Yesterday I briefly tried out Far Cry, Doom 3 and Quake 4 at 1280 x 1024 maxed out and they all had great frame rates. But I'm not a big fan so they're all on eBay lol.

Oh, and I also play America's Army at 1280 x 1024 maxed out very smoothly.

I don't ask too much from my rig and all in all I'm still very happy with it. GT Legends gets a tiny bit choppy occasionally at 1280 x 1024, hence my running it at a lower res.

It's not really a great multitasker though, but much better after I added another 512 stick of RAM this week. I was thinking of going with a x1950 pro for not much more than the 7600 GT, but I'm pretty sure it would have meant a new P/S, and I don't want to sink too much into this rig. If I can get another year or two out of it (the two doubt), I'll be happy. I'll just keep pushing the res down until it gets unbearable.

Sound's more important to me than video really though. I might add a cheap OEM X-fi, my onboard audio isn't great. Or maybe just an Audigy 4. And a DVB-T card. They're transferable to my next build at least (well maybe not the Audigy 4 with Vista's revamped approach to audio). I don't use my pc for music though, got a nice Denon CDP for that, just games, finances, keeping in touch with family half way across the country, catching up on NBA highlights etc.

Was my first build, and has been good to me.

Honestly, what are the chances of being able to run Crysis maxed out 1024X768 with aa maxed out on a 7900GT?

hmm, apparently the game runs quite well on 7800GTX's and X1900XT's according to Crytek and this is while the game is still unoptimized.

It most definitely won't run well on my system (X2 3800, 2GB RAM, GeForce 6800GT, native monitor resolution: 1680*1050). I'll upgrade in maybe half a year or so, maybe a bit earlier if Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is out by then. I'll probably try to get a Intel Core 2 Quad and a GeForce 8800GTX.

ET: QW and Team Fortress 2 are the games I'll probably be playing the most in the future, so whatever will run them smoothly at max details on my monitor is the minimum I'll want to get. But a Core 2 Quad and a GeForce 8 should be future-proof for quite a while.

Code, I bet it will run. The developers said they wanted to scale back 2 years. Plus all the video's you've seen have been running on Directx 9. I dont think the game should require something insane. If it is programed correctly, it will be enjoyable on a broad range of computers. Half Life 2 did it.

Actually, while they are now owned by AMD, it has seemed to me for quite a few years now, that on average, ATi cards have been a better deal than nVidia cards here in Canada.

Cheapest X1950 XT is $320 CND right now.
Cheapest 8800 GTS is around $480 less rebates right now (sale).
Cheapest 8800 GTX is $680 less rebates (sale).

The GTX is way more than i believe any video card is worth, & the GTS simply doesn't perform $160 better than an X1950 XT IMHO.
It's better, sure, but not hugely.

Rig in sig should be able to handle it. Nothing else seems to be tasking it at the moment (not that I'm complaining :) )

Looks like this could be a game that makes everyone upgrade for the eye candy.

Needs Vista and a DX10 card.

It's always best to wait until the game is out, then upgrade.

36gb Raptor
150gb RaptorX
Enermax Galaxy 1000W

My God...

And hopefully I'm able to run it on:

AMD X2 4200+
2GB PC4000 OCZ Gold RAM (3-3-3-10) - may have upgrade to 4GB, if I must.

As for video card, I currently only have a 7600GS 512mb DDR2 card so I'm going to upgrade to a 7900/7950 or maybe even an 8800GTS/GTX by the time Crysis rolls around, but we'll see.

The X2 and 2-4GB of RAM plus a new video card should be able to do it. I hope?

Hopefully it'll run it will on a system like that. I think Crysis will probobly be at least a dual core optimized game, if not quad core.

"Crysis will dynamically utilize all processing threads available. Meaning quad-core processors will be supported."

Well good news everybody, at CES Crytek supposedly ran the game maxed out at 60fps on a single 8800GTX. This is while the game is still in alpha stage, this might be promising.

Why is your RAM underclocked?

If I do play it - I don't have any plans to run out and get it - it'll be on my rig I have now most likely. Opteron 165 @ 2.81GHz, X1900XT, 2GB PC3200 RAM, Audigy 2 ZS, Samsung 250GB SATA2 HD. Might OC the CPU a little more if I get a water loop but odds of that are slim (too pricey for my current income :()
