What rifle to buy

Want a beginners gun.

Iron sights preferrably cheap that looks nice.

Doesnt have to be extremely accurate but the more accurate the better.

I would also consider a shotgun but I would have to get the handle grip for it and I think the kick on it would probably be greater than that of a rifle. Which brings me to my last point. If it came down to it the woman needs to be able to shoot it so a lesser kick would be ideal but mostly im looking for cheap.

Any help is appreciated.

Well, what TYPE of gun do you want? There are lots to choose from! If you want a beginner gun, I'd suggest a nice .22 rifle. Ruger makes very nice rifles and you can pick one up for less than $200. I've often had my eye on one of the nickel-plate Ruger .22 rifles but so far haven't taken the leap(or pulled the trigger ;) ) to get one. That would be my suggestion.....
and if you don't want a Ruger.....Wal-mart should have some cheap ones for probably around $100. Just be careful where you shoot! .22 bullets are very small but they will go a LONG way......

Keep one thing in mind........the link that xeno2060 posted is from Ruger's site. They're gonna charge top dollar. You can pick up the same rifle at Wal-mart for almost $100 less. :)

I am assuming you are considering this for self defense reasons.

AR-15.

Low recoil, accurate, very good sights, and has high capacity mags at reasonable prices. It is a good rifle to learn on.

Go with one of the better makers: Bushmaster or Rock River Arms. Both make excellent rifles.
A base model will run about $650.

AK clones can be had for closer to $300. They will have more recoil and worse sights, but are as reliable as it gets.

Walmart also is carrying a 10/22 with a 20" SS barrel for ~$208. I couldn't locate this gun on ruger's website, or at galleryofguns.com

You may wanna check that second site out for any gun you do chose to buy and see if it's cheaper.

I'll also cast a vote for the 10/22, you can shoot 100K rounds through it & sell it for nearly what you paid for it if you outgrow it.

Gun looks awesome but a little out of my price range. If I were out of college I would definately consider.

What do you plan to do with it?

Range / JIC although any home invader would have to get past Roscoe.

I bought a Winchester lever action rifle in .44 Magnum thinking it would be a fun plinking gun to go with my S&W .44 Magnum. Man, that thing kicks like a friggin' mule. I actually put a nice thick decelerator pad on it to help tame the recoil.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want to poke holes in cans or paper then you really can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22. You can buy a brick of .22 Long Rifle ammo (that's 500 rounds) for $10-12.

Yeah I would probably sell it in two years if I kept up with shooting. Also I love the gun vault in your signature it is too bad that it costs as much as my gun allowance but I was already wondering why type of safety lock to get that wont take a bunch of fiddling with keys. Luckily no children here yet.

That's a horrible suggestion for self defense. It is not concealable and would penetrate many walls easily with lethal force. A handgun would be a much better choice for a home/self defense weapon. Or a shotgun if funds are tight.

Brownells is a little expensive, but it'll give you an idea what's avaialble for it, you could build one entirely from 3rd party parts if you wanted to:D It's a very popular model for people who target shoot & or just mod their guns.

Hehe, I have a 10/22 I put a cheap $30 Bushnell scope on and it is great fun for plinking.

I think I paid $129 for a blue finished 10/22 about 10 years ago. I've shot thousands of rounds through it and probably cleaned it twice. It is as good today as the day I bought it. I also picked up a couple of those clear plastic 30 round magazines for it. Great fun. You can shoot this thing all day for almost nothing and never have a worry about recoil. I've put the butt of this gun up against my groin and fired 30 rounds through it. It has NO recoil at all.
