regardless, I highly recommend asking experts before you build your first computer. remember, grease conducts electricity...

Honestly, are you that stupid? I've been doing this for YEARS, this is just the first S939 system with a retail heatsink, and will also be the last. You, on the other hand, need to go back to the 5th grade and play with the kids your age.

never having assembled a s939, what is the problem?

The lever against which that nasty thumb is pushing is supposed to roll to the right and in the process of doing so, push down on the metal bit below it, putting significant tension on the heatsink. However, it doesn't work out that way.

I had this problem with my s754 (same design), until I re-read the directions. Once I did that, it went on without any problems.

You'll never believe how I just got it in. Improv.

The previous designs had a flat spot in the final resting spot and an additional arm to "secure" it to another tab on the mounting bracket. This one is the cheap-out version.

No, I didn't fry sh!t. That's DOA. Now the RAM, I'm assuming, is totalled. Good thing it only worked on one particular model of mac clone.

I fail to see what the problem is... I have used 754 and 939 factory HSF's and they are plenty better than the stupid LGA775 Intel heatsinks....

LGA775 makes me laugh. I've never had anywhere NEAR this much trouble with one, but after applying the male logic in place of male brute strength, it all worked.

..is it going to take a lot of toe effort to push it to the lock position?? I guess it needs that square surface to secure??

I still want to know what camera that is... Any finer detail we'd see the big toe fungus growing at a microscopic level.

Oh, and re: the camera. That wasn't even macro mode. That was straight up point-and-shoot. It's an Olympus C4000Z from yesteryear. Classic shyt.

I just put one together myself two weeks ago and thought it was a very easy install, very good retail heatsink. The clips were very easy to fit over the lugs, and as I pulled that lever back, both sides got nice and snug and the tension was set properly. Don't really know what you're talking about.

Nothing is as bad as the stock Intel heatsinks for Prestonia socket 604. A four-layer mounting system really is over the top.

Now, socket 604 Nocona, OTOH is awesome. Best HSF system I've ever used.
