Just crank it down, girly!

It bends when I crank it down; I'm not about to snap it off and void the warranty on a $400 CPU.

If anything I'd worry about that little plastic part that the locking mechanism latches on to breaking off.

That's not plastic anymore as far as I can tell. Seems to be some kind of composite.

I noticed. Now if you don't have anything productive, GET OUT OF THE THREAD.
This is off topic, noob... if you wanted productive answers, there's a CPU category

I *DIDN'T* want answers, but people gave them anyway.

Try using your thumb and index finger at the same time, use the thumb to prevent the entire thing from shifting, and the index finger to push down the locking lever.

Honestly, are you that stupid? I've been doing this for YEARS, this is just the first S939 system with a retail heatsink, and will also be the last. You, on the other hand, need to go back to the 5th grade and play with the kids your age.

i have installed several of these with no problems and found them to be much easier then the old school thunderbird setup (cant remember what socket that was). sounds like something is wrong with either your board or headsink.

does your fan/heatsink have the amd hologram sticker on it?

Pah, the retail heatsink isn't that bad. We had one for my A+ class and everyone in the class got to put a S939 system together and take it apart again. None of those numbskulls had problems with the heatsink. You just suck at life.

The lever against which that nasty thumb is pushing is supposed to roll to the right and in the process of doing so, push down on the metal bit below it, putting significant tension on the heatsink. However, it doesn't work out that way.

It does look like a really crappy design Wing. Sorry the hsf sucks. All I can think is that if it were a cylindrical shape as opposed to that square one, the lever would have nothing holding it in place and it would just shoot straight back up when you let go.
