what resoultion do you run your games at ?

trying to figure out whats average i got a 7800 gt and i run everything at 1024x768 85 hz seems like a waste or im i just nuts ?

my monitor cant get 1600x1200 with 85 hz only 75hz and it kills my eyes !

Copied out of a thread like this a few months ago:

Most new games: 1280x960 130hz
New games with HDR: 1024x768 150hz
FEAR demo: 800x600 150hz
HL2 and most older games: 1600x1200 100hz
A few other older games: 2048x1536 85hz
Ancient games that can't do anything higher: 640x480 150hz

This is with an oc'd 6800 GT. I don't use any AA in most games.

That is indeed probably a waste except in one or two games like FEAR, unless you're really going heavy on the AA. You want to use at least 1280x960 in most cases.

Even with my lowly P4 2.4 ghz, 1GB RDRAM, and 6600 GT OC, I still manage to run all my games at either 1600x1200 @75hz (fine for my eyes), or 1280x960 with 2xAA 4xAF. The latter is usually just a tad less smooth than the straight up 16x12, but it's also a tad prettier. So I'm constantly experimenting, seeing which game handles which setting best. BTW, I use a 19" CRT.

My goal is to build a solid rig next summer ($2,000-3,000 range) with dual video cards and be able to play 2048x1536 with full image processing at 60 fps. Just waiting on technology... and my bank book.

EDIT: Most games I run are older, like HL2, Raven Shield, FS2004, San Andreas, and Operation Flashpoint. But I managed to play the Call of Duty 2 demo just last week and got maybe 30 fps at 1280x960. I'm constantly surprised how well my 3.5 year old system (save the video card) hangs in there.

I'm a big fan of 1680x1050 widescreen, but if I can't get that, then usually 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 using correct aspect ratio. It does a body good😎

this is the monitor i have is it good ? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824002248
Maximum Resolution 1600x1200 @ 76Hz
Recommended Resolution 1280x1024 @ 85Hz

Run it at the highest res you can at 85Hz, so either 1280x1024 or 1280x960.
Why jump from 1600x1200 down to 10234x768?!?!
Your eyes may kill because you're running at 75Hz, and that can hurt eyes after a while, 85Hz is usually considered the "minimum" refresh rate for comfortable use on CRT's.

It depends on the game but usually between 1600x1200 and 1920x1440. AA also varies according to the game.

Currently 1024*768 75Hz in most games. With new card 1280*1024 @ 75Hz max details AA and AF. My Samsung 913N TFT only gets 75Hz max but my eyes do not get bothered by it at all...

You'll be bothered if you use CRT, by the way LCD doesn't use refresh rate it uses response rate, so even with 60Hz you wouldn't be bothered.

I like to play at 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 using 16x AF for both resolutions. But, for some reason really old games that I still enjoy like FuhQuake and Hexen2 limit me to 1024x768!!! What's up with that?😕

Always at 1920x1200 if the game supports it. I find that high resoultion and having the screen fill much of mye FOV is worth lowering some eyecandy settings. If the game does not support 1920x1200 then i game at 1600x1200 unscaled.

Always 1152 x 864 unless it's unsupported. Always play with full AF, and 2x AA usually gets rid of the remaining jaggies. I have a 19" CFT.

P.S. How on earth can you gents read the text in games that don't increase the text size at high resolutions??? I would play at 1280x1024 but I don't want to sckwint (sp) to read....

With that crt go with 1280x1024@85hz. 1600x1200 wouldn't be easy on the eyes with that monitor. If you want a higher res go with a 21" Trinitron that can do at least 1600x1200@85hz or just switch to an lcd.

Try 1400*1050, you may have to add it in the custom resolution settings, but it is a true 4:3 resolution unlike 1280*1024 and if your monitor can do 75hz at 16*12 it should be able to do 85 at 1400*1050. I use it for all my games and my desktop too....
