When I got superglue on my hands I used nail polish remover to get it off but I don't know about using that on the ram chips cause it would screw something up.

I use acetone on cpus, and it's never screwed anything up, so ram'd probably be alright, but as always, I take no responsibility for whatever you do...

Razor blade. Superglue's not all that super really, especially if you have a nice sharp edge. Just go flat and don't dig into the chip

i beleive hobby stores sell superglue remover, but i'm not sure. i know they sell at least 3 different kinds of cyanoacrylate (sp?) plus stuff to make it set faster or slower.

ElFenix is right..most hobby stores sell what's called Debonder, that will melt the Superglue

Ease of removal is another reason why RTV silicone rubber sealant is better for gluing heatsinks.

Acetone is what I'd use, and as everyone else said, I'm not responible for any damage you might do, however unlikely it is.

If you use pure acetone, make sure you get some paintermasks (and preferably some latex gloves or something) too because the fumes could kill precious braincells.. leave that job to beer :)

Acetone works great. Fold a cloth that you can trash afterwards (a good example is an old undershirt), soak the center, apply that soaked area to the superglue, and make circular motions until it starts melting off, than just rub it down. Check your progess often because even a spec of superglue can screw up the contact with a heatsink.

I too will jump on the disclaimer bandwagon. I can't be held responsible, but you could probably sue my cat if something happened, because this is how he told me to do it.

Call your doctor or ask anyone who works in an ER. I am 99% sure that they don't use acetone, because people get superglue in their eye etc and acetone can't be used there.

Except for eyes, most medical protocols just call for it to be left and absorbed by the body. It is now standard procedure for a lot of surgery to use superglue In place of staples or stitches. It'll last for a few weeks before beign absorded and stops them from going back in to remove stitches.
Acetone is one thing that can be used to get rid of it. I've also had good luck with a razor and popping the glue patch off. Mileage will vary with personal techniques so I can't accept responsability.

EDIT: Off Topic but has anybody else used superglue for deep papercuts or razorcuts from a straightrazor? I carry a tube in my medical kit when hiking. Doesn't work really well on jagged tears but on nice clean cuts, works like a champ.

Um..I wouldn't recommend putting superglue into a cut. Left of the skin it will indeed come off via normal desquamation of the skin. The "glue" they use in surgery isn't chemically the same as superglue as it is toxic! Viacryl sutures are still the gold standard in most operations, as they are tried and tested.

I would advise using "Steristrips" for a fresh cut (trade name) if it is a deep cut, as long as you close the wound up within 6 hours, otherwise nothing will keep it together and it will heal a lot more slowly, and with more scarring, by secondary intention.

Damn, can you tell I have med-school finals in a week?

Acetone if you don't care about the fumes and potential repiratory problems:) CA debonder from any RC airplane hobby shop works better and without fumes, but it's pricy (about $6CDN for 1 fl.oz.)

Thankfully, I've never had a deep cut like that, but if I could press the wound edges together sufficiently (and there was no better alternative handy), I'd use a thick CA. Thin CA (like most hardware store super glues) is deadly - thinner than water by far, and would seep in everywhere.

Don't believe BS about superglue being toxic !!. Spuerglue was first used in the Vietnam war by Medics.

In the amounts that you would use in a cut it is unlikely to have any serious effects, so if you are bleeding to death and superglue is all you have then go for it ;) It just isn't the best thing in the world to use.

Aceton will not cause damage to components.... we wash CPU boards at my work in acetone after soldering on the board.

Yep, I'm a superglue self-surgeon! So long as you only buy cyanoacrylate and not other types, it's nontoxic- and heals faster and with much less scarring than either stitched cuts or cuts left alone!

Of course, in keeping with the rest of this thread, I can't recommend anybody else even think about using glue of any kind for any purpose!
