I'm trying to make a list of all the relatively new PCI video cards. Here's what I've thought of so far:

  • Voodoo3 2000
  • Voodoo3 3000
  • Voodoo4 4500
  • Voodoo5 5500
  • GeForce2 MX (but bad performance vs. AGP card AFAIK)
Are there any PCI Radeons? What about the different Savage based cards? Were's some of them PCI? Also, what TNT2 cards are PCI? I'm pretty sure a few of them are. Thanks!

Voodoo 5's price is dropping. Good card for the price it is now, if you can do with out tech support which is in serious doubt. In another few weeks/month the price should be down even more. It's already half price. I know I payed full price for mine ($299). Hoping the price drops under a $100. I might buy a couple. :)

I'd go with the V5 5500 definately. Next to that would be the Geforce 2 MX PCI. Other video cards have never worked well while having ATI drivers installed but that was a while ago so things might have changed.

Thanks for the suggestions. The list actually isn't for me...some of my friends with integrated motherboards that only have PCI slots have asked me what kind of video card to get, so I need something to tell them. :)

Any idea if the Radeon PCI is SDR or DDR? Also, about how much will it be? One of my friends only wants to spend $100 or so, which will be hard unless he can find a V3 3000 or V4 4500.

Only 100? I don't think you'll find a Radeon for that cheap, maybe 125 for a Radeon.

If your friend can pump out 10 bucks more, I'm sure he can get a Geforce 2 MX, the PCI version isn't all that bad, it just doesn't make use of the 2x/4x AGP features, and is a little slower on benchmarks (only enough to notice really)

If your friend is willing to wait a couple of weeks, I'm sure the V5 5500 will drop soon, maybe near 100?

I'm waiting for the prices to fall on the V5's then I'm going to buy a V5 PCI for my rig...some games just look better on the V5.

I've already downloaded all the driver updates and everything for the V5.
