either you guys make a whole lot of money and live like peasants, or you don't live in a major city. i live in los angeles, ca and my rent is about 40% of my net 🙁

same with me. i live in a major city and its about 40~45% after tax.
 
my aim is for 25% of my after tax, after medical insurance income to be paid for rent (mortgage) and car (car payment + insurance) combined.

i think people are overinvested in real estate.

I'm in San Diego...believe me, I feel your pain (and I'm about to move to Carmel Mountain).

My parents have a house in Carmel Valley and a condo in University City. That's a huge drain. As for my salary, 0% because my parents pay for my college room and board 😀.
