I'm putting together the specifications for my new comp which I'm gonna build soon. Here's the specs :

AthlonXP 1800+
Epox 8KHA+
Asus V8200 GeForce3
Audigy Platinum
IBM 60GXP 60GB

You probably might have noticed I haven't specified the RAM I'm gonna use. Where I live, I can only get Apacer DDR 2100 or Kingmax DDR 2400. I'm planning to use 2 sticks of 256MB. Any of you had experience with these 2 brands? Which will overclock better? Will the Kingmax stick be better at 2400 than Apacer's 2100 for overclocking?

Thanks a bunch!

I have had limited experience with the Kingmax. We put it in the PC my brother and I put together for his use. It has worked fine since he started using it (about two years ago). I am not sure what the chips are, but if it is rated at 2400, then it should be a better overclocker than a 2100 rated stick. Personally, that is what I would go with considering your options.

If you haven't bought either of those two yet, I would recommend crucial or muskin instead. I've heard for crucial going up to 163 MHz with PC2100. Mushkin I think has PC2400

Only memory Ive ever had fail was Apacer. No lifetime warranty and no reply to any of my emails to the company. Stay away.

Kingsmax, Ok but why mess around when Crucial is so cheap, free shipping and lifetime warranty.

I concur with thebestMAX , Crucial DDR is so solid at this point that paying more just seems superfulous.

I use Kingmax on my SDR system. Tested some DDR Kingmax as well. No probs. Running 145 @ CAS2 stable(didn't go higher...dunno how high it will reach @ CAS2). Between the 2...I choose Kingmax.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll keep looking around for Crucial. Almost every benchmark machine uses it and a whole lot of other people as well.

I have not bought anything online except for books. Is the shipping package safe enough for the RAM to arrive in perfect condition? Furthermore, do you guys know of any sites that ship internationally?

Thanks again!

Crucial ships internationally, someone provided a link for a guy in France who didn't think he could get Crucial. Just go to www.crucial.com and look for some overseas linkage.

As for shipping...their packaging is awesome, and free fed-ex! It arrives in a fed-ex pak in a rigid cardboard box that encloses the RAM completely in foam. Both of my sticks were in sealed anti-static bags. It is a neato little package to get in the mail, I think I'm gonna order more just to get the coolin package again ;) Considering the RAM installation guide is in about 20 different languages, I'm thinking Crucial expected people outside the USA to buy their RAM.....we can't have *ALL* the fun now can we :D

Well I might not be going after those Crucial RAM after all :(
It's just a tad bit over my budget considering the exchange rate and shipping charges(I live outside the US)

I checked with almost all the local computer shops and they haven't even heard bout Crucial. WTF??

Anyway they've just got in some Kingmax DDR333 and I'm thinking of going for it. What do you guys think? Is the AthlonXP 1800+, Epox 8KHA+ and Kingmax DDR333 a good combo for overclocking?

Thanks

<< I checked with almost all the local computer shops and they haven't even heard bout Crucial. WTF?? >>

Because they only know Micron, they only sell overpriced generic Micron memory.

It's slightly cheaper here compared to buying from Crucial directly. Shipping charges outside the US is about $10 an above. I was pretty damn lucky to step into that shop. It's the only one selling Crucial ram around and the only in the country(or so he says) :D

DDR 333 oughta OC like hell.

equates to 166.5 front-side bus speed. You're graphics card may start sucking wind though.

Meaning when or if your FSB was ever that high the AGP card would be running out of spec. It is supposed to run at 66mhz (2/3 the speed of a 100mhz bus, 1/2 the speed of a 133mhz bus). When the AGP frequency speed is so high the video card may not work well, or at all.
