What RAM shall I choose for my setup?

So I am building a new rig with a 5930K CPU / ASUS Rampage V Extreme Motherboard.

I am not going to purchase it from Origin PC but I did call their tech support to ask them why they offered 2800MHz Corsair RAM / 16GB only but if I wanted 32GB the max they offered is 2666 MHz either Corsair Vengeance LPX or Corsaid Dominator Platinum. The tech support guy said this was due to compatibility reasons and that a lot of testing has been done before the available options were posted online for buyers to choose from.

He advised me not to pay more for the Dominator and to stick to the 2666MHz Corsair LPX to avoid any headaches.....

Now I see this G.Skill RAM with speeds of 3000 MHz or 3300 MHz what do you think of it?

I did a bit of research and saw many people running into issues with the higher speed RAM not running at the advertised speed or is not stable enough for a 24/7 system.

Look at the configurator on the G.SKILL website for your motherboard, and by all means -- look at Berryracer's suggestion. Or, I'll have a better look see and comment.

GEE-zus!! They sure look awesome for $700!!

Looks like a budgeting exercise, if you want those -- unless you've got plenty of coin or some good credit terms. I'm sure folks will manage. Now I know what's in store for me late in the year, or a little after . . . . EDIT: Looks as though the kit I saw at the Egg was the 8-module, 64GB set. Still -- some hefty change, even for half.

I can tell you, for models of DDR3 for a more modest speed, you can over-clock or down-clock G.SKILL for some flexibility and good performance. Wonder what they'll be promoting next year?!

Remember that the x99 platform takes DDR4, not DDR3. Also, @OP: you may have better luck with higher memory speeds if you make sure you are running the latest BIOS for the RVE board.
