Hey guys,

Just a quick question. I can't decide which memory to go for to work with a GA-P35 DS3L I'm planning to buy. I'm planning to get 4GB total. These are my options:

OCZ Reaper HPC - $40 AR from buy.com

OCZ Platinum Rev 2.0 - $38 AR from newegg.com

Corsair XMS2 -$48 AR from newegg.com

Crucial Ballistix - $50 AR from newegg.com

I was originally leaning towards the Ballistix until I was advised not to get Ballistix for Gigabyte, despite it being on the approved list. I'm now leaning towards the Reaper memory, mostly because it's cheaper. However, I don't think it's on the approved list.

Any advice you can give would be welcome. Especially if you have the board.

if you go reaper your going to need to make sure you set the timings and voltage accordingly in bios. Ocz is picky about that. Also their lifetime warranty and customer service is great.

I just picked up the P35-DS3L board. I, too, am having trouble deciding on which type of ram to buy: 800 or 1066. My Board is rev 1.0.

What do people recommand for this? I know 1066 is more expencive, but that is not a big deal. Shouldn't I be able to oc most good 800 ram to run at 1066 or close to it? Is there any "real world" advantage to going with 1066 over 800?

I was origionally going to pick up 4 gb of 1066, but the guy at the local PC store was telling me that I better be sure to get whats recommanded for this board since 1066 chips can be fickel, where as, it did not matter as much with the 800 ram.

Thanks
Quiet

ps. I thought it best to post in this thread instead of creating a new one.

The only real world advantage of 1066 over 800 will depend primarily on your CPU OC. If your CPU will run more than about a 450FSB, I'd suggest DDR1066.

Im using DDR2-5400 and thats running fine with my Q6600 at 3GHz lol...dunno why people use much higher clocked RAM...does it really make a huge difference? :S Also I recon that running it 1:1 is always better...

For those can run faster FSBs than you yes, memory faster than PC5400 is a good idea and it does make a difference.

You should be able to overclock quality 1.8V DDR2 667 RAMs to at least 400MHz. A few here have pushed their Kingston N5 1.8V DDR2 667 ValueRAM to 400MHz/4-4-4-12-2T with only 1.95Vdimm.
