Gov workers tend to be pretty poor at dolling out welfare benefits and anythig else finamcial related. Auditing and bottom line margins seem to be handled better in the private sector.

Anything involving compassion like victim services, law enforcement, prosecution, fire safety, should be handled publicly

Several cities already employ private security forces for routine patrol, freeing up commissioned police officers to investigate crimes. I've seen Haliburton Security Guards (that's what it said on their sleeves) on patrol in downtown Houston and Dallas.

That actually doesn't seem like a bad idea. Not sure I'd want the private forces to be issued lethal weapons, though.

private industry is far more efficient at 80% of certain operations than the government is. Why? Because they're in competition to provide what the customer wants. That's it.
Their numbers are also a lot more dynamic. When a company decides it no longer needs Department A, it gets rid of that department. When the government decides it doesn't need Department A, it takes a long time to get rid of it or sometimes the department is never eliminated at all.

Private companies are also less prone to being destroyed by a union. All of the government employees here are unionized, and the union is unbelievably powerful. They'll make insane demands simply because they can. We demand you don't close Department A even though nobody uses that department and all it does is consume money.

... and in your land of unicorns and flowers the government is not corrupt and out to increase it's power over citizens? Lest you forget, the government is the entity giving those "evil" corporations monopoly situations and writing laws that enable them to take advantage of the consumer.

Remember that next time some government politician lackey tells you more government is needed to solve some problem.

And who lobbied to get that lackey in there - the man making $35K a year?

Our government is open to all, in that mostly anyone can participate in civil service. That opening is being soiled and infected by the greedy to ensure they have their say and stake shoved up the ass of the common American.

Hey, ever read this tidbit of elitist thought and insight? http://emsnews.wordpress.com/2010/03/08/citigroup-loves-plutocrats/
Here are the cliff notes: the wealthy need to have a say and presence in a democratic society, to ensure their interests (wealth preservation and growth) are secured - at whatever cost.

Sorry brah - the rich have fucked this country up the ass over and over again. And, they want us to be thankful for it or shut the fuck up for when we call them out on it. This is where corporations come in. They are the physical brute force of the wealthy. Where ruthless goons are "rewarded" for harming and hurting paying customers.

Hell is going to be a very interesting experience for America's wealthy and war/power mongering slime.

Sanitation; turns out that the smell of rotting garbage isn't that bad to the health of human beings. So, Sanitation INC will allow you to store your own garabage on your own property for decomposition, for the low low price of $2,000 a month.

If you do not pay, Cop Corps INC will be sent in to enforce the payment of allowing you to let your garbage rot.

Sanitation is already privatized in most areas.

Why are you so jealous. Envy is just ugly. I have an idea, come up with an idea for a business, put together a plan, gather the seed money and start your own Corporation. Simple. You can then run it the way you want and feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

That's usually for parking garages and office buildings, not street patrol. Houston uses police officers - on bike, on horse and undercover for downtown street patrol.

When we compare private owned public utilities to government/people owned public utilities the differences in price is staggering. Around 50% higher for private owned than people owned. If private companies were more efficient then they would have lower rates, but study after study show that not to be the case.

Macamus Prime, you realize "corporations" are not some evil mystical entity, they are made up of groups of people, just like society, and just like government. You can form a corporation, so can I or anyone else. Corruption exists everywhere, in any organization.

You seem to have some beef with those who have proven more successful than others, probably just envious and angry that you can't cut it in the real world.

If the government had not provided them with a monopoly, they would have more incentive to be efficient and would not be able to gouge customers. When government sets up systems that prevent the market mechanism from working, you can't be surprised when it doesn't. Duh.

But, can't you see, those people are greedy - all of them, and their greed is evil, thus the Corporation itself is evil. See how easy that is when someone won't take the risk themselves.

Yes - I am envious that I don't have the thirst for human suffering like your role models do.

Someone is keeping score and track of what you do in life. You may not care now, but when karma cock stabs your ass, know it was you setting it up all along.

It's difficult to take you seriously sometimes.

The thirst for human suffering? Are you referring to peoples' desire to make money so they can live well?
