I've gotten a bad taste for Antec. Three 400-watt models have died in the last couple of months. I have also seen several posts lately concerning the True Power series. I know the specs and features make it sound great, but the reliability and performance sounds questionable at this point. I have had three Allied 450-watt power supplies lately. Absolutely bulletproof, quiet and cool.

Well, Personally I have never had a problem with my TruePower 330, I cant hear it running and having a quite water cooling system make my computer one of the quietest Ive ever heard.

Turbo-Cool 425 ATX...when power is an absolute concern for the serious overclocker seeking maximum performance. My 400W Antec just went heads up today and I have researched this to the extent that if money is not a priority, then PC P&C is the best money can buy:

http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/products/power_supplies/highperformance/turbocools/index_hp_atx.htm

If you are wanting to stay with a budget, go for Fortron/Source or Sparkle which did very well in Anandtech's latest roundup:

My money is on the Turbo-Cool 425 ATX being shipped to me this coming week :)

fortron/sparkle are high quailty and cheap
I've had no problems with my antec truepower 480, but when the cpu is under load (like when I run prime95), it makes a high pitched whinning noise. Kinda annoying

Ditto. Why would you spend more? My Allied 450W runs my 3.3GHZ p4 IS7 rock stabiliy with no probs. $39, you cant go wrong.

Would it surprise you that My Enermax 365 runs the same (3.3 GHz on IS7) without a hitch, even cool air is coming out (I have a lot of case fans though). Yep, the finest retail power supply there is - Enermax. Beside the MTBF for Enermax is two time the one for Allied. But of course if one uses AMD then you need more on 3.3+5.

CPU-6795, Mem-6133, HDD-1387

Not bad, how about this:
Pentium 2.4 GHz at 267 FSB (3.2 GHz) with 5:4 memory at 2-3-3-7
CPU: 7925
Mem: 8956
HDD: 1311

My Fortron 350W works very well. My rails are very solid and don't fluctuate at all. I tested them with a digital multimeter while under load. I'm using a lot of juice too: 1.9V vcore, 2.9vdimm, 1.7vdd and a video card with volt-modded gpu and memory.

Sure, Allied has been on AMD recommended list for some time, it is not a crapy PSU. It is not equal to output of 400 or even 350 Sparkle but it is not shabby at all.
