What PSU to get ?!? (Hi I'm new)

Ok first thing first !!! I'm new on the forum so ... HI EVERYBODY !!
And now that the introduction is done I have a good question for you guys..

I plan to buy a new computer by the end of May based on the new Intel Chipset (875P) and the 800FSB Pentium 4. My question is.. I have a tight budget and I live in canada so computer hardware isn't cheap. I'm looking to buy a good PSU for the setup I plan to buy (the one in my sig). What do you suggest ?!?

BTW I know this question has already ben ask but different computer need different PSU

a good name 350-400W should be good (even for overclocking, if you plan to do any?)

i always stick by enermax cuz ive bought quite a few, and all are really good at holding their own voltage wise
antec trupower series ive heard is also good

Will you be doing an ocing of the cpu or other components??? I think several 350 watt powersupplies can handle that system. Antec can give you reliability at a decent price. Look for true power versions. They should contain the 4pin (square) P4 connector. The true power ones will....The enermax line is more substantial for ocing but come with a heftier price tag....

There are many decent brands maybe a bit cheaper then the antec so do some research and just come back here in ask us....

The fact is you have some time so really do your research and you will have this figured out shortly and be very happy with your system...

Well .. I don't plan to overclock right now. This computer will be a giant step in performance compared to my Pentium II 350mhz@466 lol.. This comp is 4 years old and still kicking. I did some research and I found 3 PSU that fit my needs .. well I think.

Antec TruePower 430W for 120$ can
Enermax 350W Whisper for 84$ can
Enermax 450W Whisper for 118$ can ( i don't know witch model theyare)

There is also a 380watt version of the true power if you want to look at that. The ones you have listed are all high quality and are there if you want to raise the bar and oc a bit....

I like the enermas 465 which is a 430watt model....The older whisper line are more comparable to the Antec ATX12V line of power supplies which are also decent and run from 300-400watt in models...

$120 for the 430W truepower?? I dont know where youre getting your prices, man... but thats way too expensive. Shop around. I got that same model for $66 shipped on amazon. :/

I hope you saw the can or canadian after it!!!! I think that is the $80 US dollar range, right??? I don't know the exact conversion but I think itis like high 60's or low 70's....

those prices are about what a couplelocal stores here charge in calgary,
i got 350w for my 2ndary comp, its not bad
out of those id get 450W, just incase you ever wanna add more hd's or opticals or whatever to your comp later on

Well I have been a fan of Enermax and Vantec all this time.
But I recently ordered a 500W Raidmax unit to try something different. Will update when I finalize that 2.53GHz computer I am building.

If you want to save money, the brand I'd recommend for price/performance is TTGI. Most their PSU's have adjustable pots for your find tuning needs. However, I never needed to use them as my pots were usually on point.

thermaltake purepower is among the best psu's out there.. you can get the 420w for like $55. do a google search you'll see alot of glowing reviews.

People tend to go way overboard with PS wattage. I run a P4 @ 3.06 GHz, 1 Gig ram, 9700 Pro, 2 optical drives, 1 HDD, sound, nic, etc from an Antec True330. I like the Antec TrueX series. They are very quiet with variable speed thermal controlled fans, and independent voltage rails.

Agreed. Order a Super Flower (which is TTGi) from Directron or elsewhere - great performance, low cost.

Here's a list of Fortron power supplies, some listed under other names.

Fortron

The Hi-Q one listed for $22 is actually a Hi-power.

Very quiet and exceeds the power ratings by about 40w.

The Verax FSP300 is also a Fortron.

I know 120$ is alot in the US.. thats why I want to make the best decision for each piece of hardware I buy.

Your guys in Montreal carry the Sparkle line, too. Check them out, in person, if possible. The Fortron/Sparkle power supplies are excellent, and some of the best buys out there. Pick 'em up, compare the weight to anything else at the same price. I'm sure you'll make a good choice.
