Need a PSU for this build I'm making to replace an old

64 3000,
x800xl,
LanParty NF4 Ultra-D
1GB 2 x 512mb Corsair PC3200
Raptor 74GB
OCZ PowerStream 420 watt 20+4pin

Was trying to do a new system for under 400 and was going to go with

G.Skill 4GB 2x2GB 240 Pin PCE 5400 DDR2800 48.79
X2 6000+ 85.49
Sapphire AM2+/Am2 AMd 780G Micro ATX AMd motherboard 73.59
HD 3850 512MB 256 Bit GDDR3 PCI 2.0 x 16 79.29

Was going to use the HD but was wondering if the PSU would work..or would I need a better one and if so, which one would you guys recommend?

Just a gaming rig to play Bioshock, Oblivion, Far Cry 2.. medium settings nothing big, major reason for the upgrade is x800 doesn't have pixel 3.0, only 2.0 🙁

Any advice? Thanks 🙂

MOD EDIT: Bumping thread over to the Power Supplies category. - Zap

I wouldn't spend $79 on an HD3850 when you can get an HD4830 for $85, an HD3870 for $72, an HD4670 for $61 or a 9600GT for $65.

Well, the psu should be just fine but if you are looking for a new one, there's a 700w OCZ at newegg for $65 after rebate that's bundled with a sweet gaming mouse for free.

otherwise, there's also a 500w ocz for $25 after rebate

Thanks for the advice so far. I am in canada atm, so the prices seem skewed compared to the ones quoted. I am thinking I might go with the 9800 GT now, so will probally pick up 700W one you suggested ther00kie. Thanks so far. Also looking into the 7750 Jae.

I'd stick with the PSU you have now. It appears it has 30A on the 12v rail, so I'm gonna assume it's a decent unit. Nothing in your system specs list seem overly power hungry.

This is another option for a video card - Link. Overclocks very well typically. Keep an eye on it, as it often gets down to the low $40's after rebate on NCIX.

9800GT is an excellent choice too, though the Radeon 4830 is probably a better choice yet if the prices are comparable.
